Clutch...clutch..and no clutch...

Reached almost 14400 on the beast today and noticed some nice clutch slippage. Realizing not all dealers are the same, has anyone been able to finagle a new clutch and have it covered under warranty? I know if I take it in, the dealer will "not be able to reproduce the slippage" nor do I want them to try. This brings me to my next question. Anyone know or have expreience with a good aftermarket clutch? I will do some research. Maybe I can get us all a deal on one...recommendations????? Thanks
PS-Anyone ever play with a motorcycle? I played with a Suzuki 600 today...from 80 plus roll ons, it was not the slaughter I thought it might be...

Dave,

I am waiting for the Dinan Sport clutch (when it arrives??)! I had the aluminum flywheel and SACHS racing clutch on my E36 Supercharged M3 and it was really kick ***!

I am expecting this same type setup in the BEAST will be a very noticable improvement in the twist at the rear wheels?!!

Anyone know when the Dinan clutch will be available?

Mine went at 11,700 miles. Dealer fixed it out of their "goodwill" account. Push for it to get fixed under warranty. They shouldn't balk.

There's no need to beg to have the clutch replaced on an M5. The service contract which comes on all U.S. M5s covers normal wear items such as the clutch, brake pads, brake rotors, everything up to 36,000 miles. That is in addition to the bumper to bumper warranty which is good for 50,000 miles.

My clutch went at 7000 miles. Although the car has 13600 miles now, i feel that this one will go soon! Im not confident with it. I noticed it lately becomes soft when i floor it for a couple of gears. I know that i wont get the stock when it gets burnt this time!
By the way, Nowack have a sport clutch that can stand up to 700NM of torgue (516lbs) and the price is only about $700 (DM1480). It is for their N500 tuned M5 and im not sure if they would sell it by itself. Anyhowz, you can email them at info@nowack-tuning.de and lets hope that they would sell it for you. I contacted them regarding the headers and they said it was only sold for their M5. Hey, its worth the try. Good luck

Oh, i also think that Kelleners have a sports clutch too. I have to check on it though

And here I used to think that any of you guys who didn't get 60k - 80k miles out of a clutch just didn't know how to drive the car!
That was always my expierience up until now.

Although I think by now I know how to drive a car, it is slipping slightly at 11k miles. People without slippage will probably still say it's the drivers error, as I did, but it's now made a believer out of me.

Mine first happened when trying full throttle runs with 4 people in it. With that much weight, and plenty of tire traction, full throttle in 2nd and 3rd started a slight slip. I never would have thought it could happen, but I suppose there's just too much torque on hand if the wheels don't spin a little.

Hope the dealer is friendly on this one, or I'll be running around solo for the rest of the cars career.

Centerforce, if they make one for the M5, is well worth trying...

I second the request for clutch slippage symptoms.

Also, mechanically speaking, how can you look at a clutch and tell about wear/abuse/failure? I'm a novice about the mechanics, so forgive the ignorance.

Chris
