Can anyone tell me how to adjust the larger version NAV screen?.................

Hey Guys,
Can anyone please let me know how I'd access the brightness setting to increase/decrease the brighness of the NAV screen. This screen is the larger of the two different types BMW installs into their cars.
The car is a 2003 model M5. Also, can someone please let me know how I'd adjust the GAL "volume sensativity" setting. I know there is a hidden/secret adjustment menu but I don't know how to access this menu. Thank you for your replies. Much appreciated!
Robert

The brightness of the NAV screen should be connected to the brighness adjustment for the dash. However ... without the lights being turned on, the same switch doesn't do anything ... so I would say that the NAV is not adjustable during day time.

As for the GAL settings. I believe that you turn the key to switch 1 position, hold the sel key down for 12-20 seconds, and a service menu should appear.

Robert: Another question for you. Let's say that a M3 was cruising down the road at around 140 and passes a patrol car. The M3 driver was to just step on it and take it to 170 (delimited), what are the chances of the M3 taking the next exit and losing the patrol? Just a hypothetical question. again.

I'll answer the question...........

even though Im not certain if its sarcastic or not?
First off, I'd have to ask what the distances between the location of the cop, versus the exit point. if its a short enough distance then it MIGHT be possible to elude the police car, should he try to give chase. BUT...................
you have to keep in mind no matter how fast your driving or how fast your ride is, the police have something over you, which is quicker than ANY car on the planet. Its their radio system. The cop can call in the description of your vehicle, possibly a partial plate was seen by the cop and he will forward this data to another cop that might be further down the hoghway or road. He can guess where you fled, and if he thinks you may have shot into an exit ramp inorder to hide in a local town, he can radio the information to that particular town/city. So you'll have to hope that you don't run into any police cars, since they will have a pretty good description of your car and you'll be spotted, then pulled over and delt with accordingly.
I have a feeling this is what you do, thus the question. LOL.......
You should change your handle to: DARE DEVIL!
Good luck and try to stay safe.

You can adjust the relative brightness and relative volume in the settings sub-menu. Navigate to the settings sub-menu. The NAV unit has its own photocell to adjust the brightness independent of the dash -- it is the pin-hole in the center of the bottom frame of the NAV screen. Covering this up for 10 - 15 seconds will dim the display. I know the relative volume is in the settings menu. If the display brightness is not, you need to go into the hidden menu to get that. Let me know if you need to get into the hidden menu.

Also, sometimes adjusting the relative volume to the max is not sufficient, and you will need to adjust the absolute volume (TP volume) from a different hidden menu. The GAL is the speed sensitive volume of the radio, and has little impact on the NAV volume. It won't make it any louder than the relative radio volume. Let me know if you need info on this additional adjustment for TP volume as well.

BTW, I don't think the screen Auto brightness dimming worked very well on NAV software prior to the V20 software that is current. There is a big difference in the dimming at night if you keep the adjustment below half way on the brightness scale...even one click to the left makes a big difference.

Robert, thank you for answering the question! No no, don't get me wrong, I was just joking with you!!! I have many friends in local police departments and have all the respect when dealing with cops! I just remembered the last time you told me "no more hypothetical questions". ROFL!

Robert, try this thread for info:

http://www.bmwm5.com/vbulletin/showt...ght=volume+GAL

It has to do with the volume settings, not sure if the NAV brightness is also in the same menu. Most likely.

Did you get your M5 already?! Congrats!
