I'm preparing to order my M5 in the next weeks to months (?) and I'm having a color crisis. Initially, I was sold on Carbon Black, but after seeing a Lemans in person and the pics on this board I love it also!
Here's what I'm asking from you: Give me your constructive criticism (no flames of course) of Carbon vs. Lemans. Why did you order one over the other. I've seen lots of posts from people supporting their color choice and I agree with all of them. So, I would like to look at it from the other side. That is, what was it about the other color that you didn't like.
Everyone has their personal favorite(s) and I hate to look at it from a "negative" perspective on this awesome car, but I'm really stuck!
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
This is easy for me. If you want to make a statement and are concerned about cleaning, then LeMans is the color for you. If you are more conservative and the stealth factor is more imortant, than Carbon Black does it.
I own a MY2000 carbon black and while I like the color, I am getting Imola Red MY2001. Now that will be a statement!
Actually, I like them both. However, Le Mans is a bit out there in terms of boldness.
Carbon is the safer more conservative choice.
Here's an example, on Saturday I was driving along our "Miracle Mile" an upscale blvd that cuts through some of the wealthiest zip codes in the U.S. (btw... I don't live near there).
I noticed a Carbon beast at a car wash (aaarghh!) being dried by the owner. The sun was out & the car just sparkled. For a split second, I tought m... what if I went with Carbon?
He looked at my car & probably tought the same thing.
Why don't you consider Oxford? There are so few out there, you'll be guaranteed some exclusivity.

Sure hope I was some help.

Dallas Spikes:
I agree with Mark's assessment. I have a friend who has Carbon Black and it is probably the most stealth color next to Titanium Silver?.. However, I also agree that if you wish to make a statement - then the two obvious colors are Lemans Blue and Imola Red!
Mark:
Excellent choice on Imola... you will probably have one of only a few Imola M5s in the entire state of CA!!
Imola rules!!

I've got to agree with Chris about the stealth factor. One of the main appeals of the M5 to me was that the average boy racer would have no clue what he was up against so, while the IR & LMB are absolutely tsunning, I wanted a stealth color too - hence my CB. I was disappointed to learn that BMW has dropped the optional rear badge delete so I'll have to do that myself. But, as my dealer pointed out, it's kinda hard to disguise those 4 exhaust pipes :-).
I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever color you pick.

Spikes - I get more complements on the color of my 2000 LeMans than any other car I have ever owned (at 53 I've owned many a car!). These come from just as many non-BMW poeple. To me the word "stunning" came to mind when I first saw the car at an autoshow. Ever wonder why they use this color so ofter at shows and in articles? Both colors you mention are high upkeep dark finishes and I agree that carbon black, and many other choices, are more stealthy. It really is just a personal choice, Good luck.
Thanks to all who have commented thus far. I'm not sure when I will get "the call", but as of today I am leaning toward Lemans. While I don't want the screaming statement an Imola makes (looks great in person!), I do like Lemans' boldness and it seems to help set it apart from the 540i even among the uneducated. However, a black BMW at night looks awfully sharp! I'm going to let it rest for a few days/weeks and see how I feel.
Thanks again and any more comments are always welcome!
Chris
