Post Anyone experience rubber flaking on center console?

On my dad's 540, the center console that moves back & forth, the one with the slot in the middle if it. The leading edge that points towards the shifter is covered in a very thin layer of rubber. This has begun to peel. Can this be fixed? If I point it out to the dealer will they replace this under warranty? Has anyone else had this problem or does the M5 not have this rubber layer?

My dad had a 540 and it had the same problem. The dealer fixed, I'm not sure whether or not it was under warranty, I'll ask. Actually, the whole piece needs to be replaced. This is an unavoidable peeling caused by a combination of things including just basic hand oils rubbing on it.

My 99 540i/6 (M5 wait list) has the same problem. It started with a little bubbling, then peeling. I haven't shown it to the dealer yet. Let me know if it's covered under warranty. I'm thinking of just peeling it all off and leaving the shiny plastic exposed.

Had it on 2000 528i - really bugged me, but as getting Beast in 8 hours, doesn't seem to bug anymore . However, will mention it to dealer next time I'm in...

Regards,

Mark
