Selling Dinan Stage III components - gentlemen's auction

Okay, as promised some months ago, my Dinan Stage III is up for sale. Nothing wrong with it, I just didn't care for the stiffer ride and had the car put back to stock. These components were originally installed in an 03/00 build M5 and have about 2000 miles on them.

Included is everything you see in the picture:

        Front struts & bushings
        Rear shocks & bushings
        Front & rear springs
Camber plates & BMW stock guide supports
        Adjustable swaybar
        DINAN emblem, never applied

True shipping costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. I'd estimate about $25 in the continental USA by FedEx Ground - I'll provide exact numbers to the winner after the auction is concluded.

I've given these items a cursory clean-up for the photo. The shocks and struts suffered some cosmetic scratches at some point during installation or removal, but they could easily be repainted if it is a concern. All items are mechanically sound to the best of my knowledge.

The camber plates come already attached to BMW stock guide supports. The stock pieces were modified to attach the camber plates, so I had to replace them with new stock parts when having the Stage III removed. This is good news for the buyer, because a) it will save a little bit of the installation labor cost and b) it will allow you to preserve your stock parts unmodified in case you ever wish to remove the camber plates.

I thought about eBay, but I'd rather give the people here first shot, so I'm going to try conducting this as a "gentlemen's auction" here in the forum, if Gustav still approves. If this doesn't work out, I'll take it to eBay.

Post your bids as replies to this thread. If you feel you must bid privately, e-mail me at dwasi@xec.net, and I'll update the thread with your bid based on the server timestamp of your e-mail. I encourage bidders to bid publicly, though - it'll be less confusing. Private e-mail bids will not be accepted within one hour of auction close.

Opening bid is $500, with $5 increments. This auction closes at 5:00 PM GMT, Monday, February 17, according to the timestamp of the messageboard.

Doing it this way is an experiment and depends on the honor of the people here, so I reserve the right to withdraw this auction if it gets out of hand.

        Happy bidding!

This maybe a dumb question...But, will ALL of these parts fit my 97 540 6spd? From my understanding all E39s are the same as far as suspension goes when you get aftermarket, right?
        Thanks....

I have no problem with allowing this thread to stay in this forum. In fact, if I didn't already have the suspension, I'd jump on this deal! Having the badge too is a definite bonus too!

However, one thing that puzzles me though is that I don't think my Dinan dealership had to modify the shock mounts for the camber plates. At least they didn't say anything about it when I picked it up. Did they tell you about it when you originally picked it up or after you had the stock suspension put back in?

I'd have to refer you to Dinan on that one. Try calling Eric Forster; he's their tech guru.

I found out about it when I was having it put back to stock. Take a look at the picture. See the three nuts on the one with silver side up? There were originally studs in those positions, which were punched out as part of the installation process. Now look at the other one; you can see the three flatheaded Torx bolts that are on the other side from those three nuts, and the three new, off-center studs that project from the camber plate. The studs have to be removed to make way for the Torx bolts, so that they will be flush with the camber plate surface.

Because the studs were punched out, I had to buy new guide supports (about $100) when the car was being put back to stock.

car...right? How long did the 1st owner have
them in use? What did you upgrade too?
What was it you didn't like about this set up?

No, sorry, I guess I was unclear. The car I was referring to is my own. They were never installed on any other car - I bought them new.

I didn't upgrade to anything - I returned the car to stock. Although the handling improvement was quite noticeable with the Dinan bits, I didn't like the harder ride.

Just to clarify - the auction closes Monday at 5:00 PM GMT. In the USA, that's noon Eastern time. Please adjust for your time zone if you're considering bidding. Thanks.
