It's called the X5 HP and it'll have 347 bhp, etc. It was mentioned before, so try a search for "X5 HP".

Tell your dealer to take a deposit and place an order for it now anyways, and BMW will come through for you. Good to be early! (as i'm painfully learning with the GT2).

Hey Dan,

will the GT2 become available in US?
A latest motor-magazine said it will only be offered here in Europe...

What motor would be in the X5M producing 347?

I thought they would use the cheaper M5 V8 at 400HP.

But at 347HP, it sounds more like the 750 series V12? Which would be a smooth torque box suitable for this, just think it might be more expensive than the V8?

It is not an X5M. BMW didn't like that idea because our engine is meant for high RPM, this doesn't make sense on and SUV (or SAV). Instead they have produced a 4.6 liter engine for the new X5, the X5 4.6is, that is. This machine will have 347 hp and somewhere in the 360s for torque. The ML55 claims a 6.4 sec 0-60mph. The X5 4.6is claims an estimated 0-60mph in under 6.5 sec. It is also rumored that the 4.6is will beat the ML55 (logically so, otherwise, whats the point?). There will be some differences in exterior trim for this new X5, I'm not sure exactly what.

The newest issue of "BMW Car" has a nice shot of the X5 4.6i from the North American Auto show in Detroit. It's equipped with 20 inch wheels and some very wide rubber. Besides the wheels, the visual differences I see in the 4.6 compared to the 4.4 are the body color front/rear lip spoilers, two oval exhausts (as opposed to two round exhausts on each side) and the deletion of the luggage rack frame on the roof giving it a sleeker look.

First orders are said to come in the fall of this year. There's most likely a waiting list for it already.

Arnie: all GT2s (250 over 4 years) have been sold out, deposits as early as 3 years ago. I've got one on order, but I'm thinking about cancelling as there are MUCH better deals and MUCH better ways to drop 200k for a track car.
