Some of you have complained about dealers still wanting sticker price on the 2003 M5. Check this out.
Current Autospies reports the following auction prices this week.
2001 E55 19,076 miles went for $45,750.
2001 M5 . 24,949 miles went for $55,200.
Retail prices can be as much as $1,000 to 5,000 above cost. In the case of these cars most likely $5,000.
Strong confirmation of the value of the M5 compared to the E55 and should be no surprise with all the reviews with the M5 beating the E55 in just about every area.
I have considered the fact that the next gen E class is in the showrooms. This should account for $3,000 to $4,000 of the almost $10,000 difference between these two cars. Keep in mind both cars are two years older. That still leaves plenty of room for kudos for the M5's holding value. Also, the mystique of Mercedes gives them the edge in head to head competition, or at least it has in the past.
What does this mean? This E39 M5 is a better investment than the E55 and buying was better than leasing this particular car.
