Post DINAN SOFTWARE...should I do it?

I tentatively scheduled a Dinan Software download on Monday. I need to hear from you guys on if the software is worth it, considering that some of you commented that Dinan's warranty isn't worth the paper it is written on. Can you really feel a difference?

I would just buy it if you really need
to go over 155mph and you don't know
someone else who will take the limiter
        off...my2c

DrKev, go for it. I've had the software for 6,500 miles with no regrets. I think the chance of it causing a warranty problem is miniscule. And it seems to me the software creates better throttle response, in addition to the very useful extra rpms in each gear. Also, it's a nice feeling to know your beast is unfettered.

I had the software on my '98 540i/6. In my opinion there was absolutely no noticeable difference except for the removal for the rev limiter and a few hundred more RPM's.
I have had a '00 M5 and now a '01--with no intention to do the download. Nothing against Dinan, it just that BMW has these engines tuned to get all they can get out of them. Now when Dinan has a M5 supercharger that gets 500+ HP, I'll be first in line.

        DrKev,

I too had the Dinan software on my '98 540/6 and didn't feel any improvment. The only thing you will feel from a Dinan software on a M5 is the improved throttle response. The response in the non-sport mode is closer to the response in a stock M5 in sports mode.

        Later,
        Kenneth

I really want the complete top end
and extra revs for 1st gear. The Dinan
download is not supposed to change other
        engine parameters except throttle. I
really want the BMW factory engine tuning
without the speed restriction, and I am
worried that Dinan might have changed
engine params. even though they claim
not to. I have also considered Kellener's
speed module as a solution. What do you
        think?

So far we found out that Dinan software solutions:
        - remove speed limiter
        - increase rev-limiter couple hundred rpms.

        On another hand: http://www.bmwm5.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002937.html
it's not recomended to take M5 on a track - because of brakes.

If anybody is going to drive above 155mph on a public highways - then Dinan software makes sence. Otherwise (for track) Dinan stage III and Porsche brakes is a Need4Speed combo.

I was looking for increased throttle response as opposed to increased top speed. There have been posts that the response is quicker with the sport switch off. Is the response with Dinan sport mode quicker than it is in stock sport mode?

I think that, on balance, it is not yet a good idea to install the Dinan software, the big brake kits or the B&B exhaust. Does that pretty much sum it up? On the other hand, I think I've heard it is a good idea to upgrade the sound systems tweeters!
