Supersprint Exhaust w/X pipe question?
Is the Supersprint exhaust system with the x-pipe a bolt on system or do you have to cut and weld to install. I want to keep my stock system in case I ever decide to sell the car.

Can you use the same clamps that come with the Supersprint system to reinstall the stock exhaust system if you need to?

The clamps on the supersprint exhaust is integrated with the piping. So to answer your question, no, you cannot use the clamps for the OEM exhaust. Plus, clamping an OEM exhaust back on to OEM piping is a bit more hand-on than just that. Since the exhaust was cut, there is no overlap like there is on an aftermarket unit, and the pipes are the same diameter, i.e. the pipes are the same diameter on both ends, and the cut point determines where they meet. Did that make sense? I am not that good at explaining.

You can weld the stock exhaust back on later if you want to.. doesn't make a big difference, and if you want to sell it or trade it in, it really makes no difference to the dealer as they're not going to look under the car to see if your exhaust has been cut or not

Rocket speaks the truth....
...in that if you cut your stock exhaust to install the SS + x-pipe, and you want to return it to 'stock,' it will take a custom flange to re-attach where the stock system was cut (just aft of the cats). Think two 'male' pipe fittings; you'll need an adapter with two female ends to re-clamp the original gear.
I don't know how difficult that would be. On straight pipes (e.g., if you left the x-pipe off and just cut aft of the factory resonators to install the SS exhaust only) clamping the stock exhaust cans back on to the original stock resonator pipes using a fabricated flange would be fairly easy.
Because you have to cut pretty close to the catalysts to install the x-pipe, I'm not sure how much room there is for a custom flange to reinstall both resonator pipes.
I've got both, but I tossed the factory resonators, and if I ever get off my lazy arse, I'll put the original exhaust cans up for sale on eBay.....
Hope that helps!

I had to do this process on my 01 M5. I also had Supersprint w/ x-pipes on the car, and I had to get the stock resonator and mufflers back on. It was not easy. It required making some custom male-to-female pipes. The original cut was so close to the catalystic converters that welding wasn't possible either. There is so littel clearance under that car that we couldn't weld.

Rocket, was there a particular reason you had to put the OEM stuff back on?

Yes, I had two reasons. The first and more important reason was that I was trading in the M5 for a new M5. BMW dealers are not that keen on aftermarket parts unless it is Dinan. Also, I had sold the exhaust to Rare M5.

Once you hear that wonderful deep burble coming out of your tailpipes, you will never want to go back to stock! You may as well donate the stock pipe to your local metal salvage yard!
I had both the Supersprint X pipe AND the Supersprint exhaust on my M5 and it sounded GREAT!! It gave the car sort of a "Ferrari-ish" sound.
