I was under the impression that we should be expecting a 1099 tax form for the value of our two days at the BMW Performance Center in Spartenburg. So far, I have not received a 1099 from BMW.

Anyone know anything about this? Are they not sending the forms?

I didn't get one either. I don't understand while we should get one.

Its not like we didn't all pay for it (i.e., factored in price of the car).

The fine print on the Driving Experience was very clear that it is not factored into the purchase price of the car, and that the car owner would owe income tax on the cost of the course. It did state that we would get a 1099 form.

I didn't get one, either. Perhaps BMW has realized how ridiculous this is, and that many owners would be pissed of, especially those who were not aware of this policy (it was never mentioned during the 2 days).

Now if you could just avoid the sales tax by taking delivery in South Carolina, well I'm there!

BTW, does anyone know if Oregon has a sales tax?

You can avoid sales tax by buying in Oregon - but only for the duration of a temporary registration. Max is, I think, 90 days. If you try to set up a local address for permanent registration, as soon as you register the car, Oregon will insist you get a local driver's license or prove to DMV why you should have a license from another state (i.e. Oregon is not your permanent residence). You'll pay sales tax when you register an OR car in CA.

Ok ok shoot me down . You can't help but try and save a buck or two or in this case several thousand. I would never register my car in CA. It will be registered in Texas where registration fees are low low low. Afterall, this will be a company vehicle, so long as you have a company in Texas.

I just learned that they will not be sending out 1099 forms for the cost of the program. It was an error on the part of someone at BMW that that was even said/put on any documents. We DO NOT have to pay taxes for the cost of the program!

I really think it was just a CYA thing. They DID send me a letter explaining I would be responsible for any associated taxes, but I guess I didn't really expect to get a 1099. Nor do I now!
As an aside, I did the Performance Center Delivery about six weeks before my M5 Experience (I wanted my Beast as soon as humanly possible!!). I was told to expect a South Carolina state tax applicable to ANY new car delivered in that state, and it never materialized. Again, I think they were preparing me for the worst, and then probably were able to exert their significant stroke in SC to get exempted from the tax.
No taxation without representation! BTW, I'd gladly pay a tax on the M5 Experience---I still grin when I think about hammering around in somebody else's Beast!
