        ? tire pressure warning ?

        HOW DOES IT WORK?
is there a sensor in the wheel or what?

i am thinking of buying new wheels, do i have to do something so the tire pressure warning still works?

        thanks for your help.

The basic operation is explained in the owner's manual pretty well. Read that, and if you still have any questions about it, post again. You need to recalibrate if you change tires or if you change pressures.

        ?tire pressure warning ?

The tire pressure monitor sounds/displays warning when there is sudden change in tire pressure....However, I have found that it alerts with bumps/cornering as well....maybe a problem with my car (but I have heard similar complaints from friends too). or the fact that it has been ridiculously cold. Have you had any problems with it? (surely I'm going to have dealer check it out.)

Real men don't read manuals (or ask for directions.) Now, where am I?

NMAM5 - I have not had any problems with false alerts. Then again, mine may not be working at all. Nah, there should be a warning if the tire defect sensors are not working properly.

I can say it definitely works!

Saturday I was driving how when "TIRE DEFECT" came up on the OBC display. I checked all the pressures and my right rear was 8 pounds low. It had a screw broken off in the center of the tread!

Luckily it wasn't in the sidewall and Discount was able to patchplug it for me. I'd done some business with them before and took Krispy Kreme so there was no charge!

Until I checked pressures, I couldn't tell which tire was low. If you don't have a dial-type pressure gauge, GET ONE! Never trust anyone else to set your tire pressures for you, they always screw it up. Check your pressures every week or two in the morning before you drive.

Have you performed the "tire pressure set" procedure? Simply check all 4 tires with an accurate gauge and set them to what you want. If you do find a low tire, check it closely for a nail to avoid a future problem. Then start the car (or at least the on position), fasten your seat belt, then press and hold the tire pressure set button (to the right of the stearing column). It should say set tire pressure on the dash in a few seconds. Drive the car for 5-10 minutes to calibrate the system. It then monitors the tire rotation speeds and warns if a tire is low in pressure (causing a faster rotation).

BTW, it uses the ABS sensors on rotation speed, not a gizmo mounted to the wheel.

I had mine go on the other day on the way home from work on an especially cold day in NJ (not compared to some of my more northern friends) of 5F. Pulled over and checked the pressure and all was within spec. Reset and all has been fine since. Certainly it will not detect catastrophic tire failure - but you all know that since you have read the manual;)

        tire pressure problem

I posted the other day that I was having probs with tire pressure monitor...Dealer checked it out and found that

        1. my pressures were low in all tires (36 they said)

        2. very cold temps (Boston has been 'wicked cold')

They assured that I'll else was OK. We'll see I keep you posted.
