Post OT new 7 series and m6 and etc

i got today a new issue of auto motor und sport, a german magazine and they had a lot of things dedicated to bmw in it.

like m3 v. 330ci comparison, bmw future spectre of models, interview with Milberg, new LeMans car, new F1 car (v10 820 hp @ 17.800rpm and this damn motor weighs only 95 kg!)

first of all, 5 series got their annual award in upper middle class cars, x5 was the best offroader and z8 was the best cabrio, 3 series was close second to c class in middle class cars category.

the details of new 7 are the following. some of it applies to 5 series too (engine lineup)
new engines, 3.5 v8 with 270 hp and 4.5 v8 with 340 hp. and the new king is called 760i...6.0 v12 with 450 hp and 6 speed steptronic!!!

then the details of 6 series are that it will be based on new 7 series and m6 will be 430 hp powered (new m5's engine?).

there are official (i think) pics of new 7 and some drawings of future cars like x3 and 2 series...none of an m6. i can scan 7 series pics if anyone is interested.

Yes! Please post pictures. My wife has already picked out a color combination (blue and Fawn??) and she can't wait to trade in her '98 740iL since I picked the color - black, naturally! Will the larger engines be available right away?

Pulled up alongside an E65 today in Thousand Oaks, California. The driver made no attempt to get away or hide anything and therefore I was able to see the interior. It closely resembles that of the Z9, with the iDrive monitor on top of the center console. Steering wheel is similar to the current one but with bunch of duct tape on it. Can't see the iDrive joy-stick though. The beltline of the vehicle is really high, making the car appears to be bigger than the old W140 S-class! The envoy also includes two X5s as escorts.

here they are. amfung do they look anything like you saw? i am pretty sure its a final look of the car. dont know what engines will be available at the launch, i cant read german much, but i guess that they will follow the pattern of e38 7. they had 730 and 740 in the very beginning, didnt they?
also i remember my father saying that he read in some article that the current e46 3 series is the last car that has traditional bmw styling and i suppose thats how the future looks like now. also if you look at it carefully it resembles a lot z9, so looks like thats gonna go in production too.

so what do you guys think?

These pics have been floating around the internet for a few months now. I don't think they are a real representation of the front and rear ends, but the overall shape is correct. If you look at the spy pics, the trunk lid definitely does not come up that high before the line dives dramatically in almost 90 degrees to the bumper. They only made it look like that on the spy car. And I hope the front lights don't look that ugly!

        SL,

There were so much camouflage front and back that I couldn't tell much but just four circular openings up front for headlights and two(I think) back tiny openings for brake lights.

I really hope that this is NOT going to be the final design on the new BMW 7 series.
It looks like it weighs 3 tons and are not at all nice.
Normaly BMW is very good when they camuflage new models.

Thought I should share a small story conserning the second edition 7 series.

I think it was in 85 or 86 on an Holiday we where cruising close to Dingolfing on the autobahn a sunday morning at app 150 kph when I noticed a M 635 csi coming up on us FAST...
Vrooom and it just disapered on us going flat out i guess. A few seconds later an big white car passed us on in the same speed.
I said to my father, whow what was that.? We thought it could have been the 7 series not yet published. We picked 3 gear and florred to catch up. Even with the B7 going flat out in 280-290 it took a while until we catch up. Then we slowed down and drove behind him, at the time he was driving acording to tacho app 260 kph. We imidialty saw that this had to be the new 7 series out on a high speed test.
I had my camera with me and started to take some photos, we went alongside still in app 250 - 260 to take closer look. the car was full of instruments and when the driver saw what was happening he braked HARD.....

We just contiuned and very soon we passed the M635 that had slowd down almost to a standstill, Id tell you...the look he gave us was NOT nice !!!!!
The photos turned up nice, this photos was a long time before i saw any spy photos anywhere so I guess I could have made some money on it. But Id never showed the photos to anyone.
Looking at the photos you could clearly see that the big car was leaning heavily over in something that on photo did not look like much of a turn, that proves that the speed was very high. It must have been the 750i out for a morning walk....

PS I have tried to find the photos but without any luck....

Looks too much like a Merc from the rear and a UK Rover from the front.
Perhaps the original designer was on holiday and the junior thought he'd have a go.
