My M5 is in production (status 150)!

First time poster, but longtime lurker...

My '03 M5 (Sterling Gray / Imola Red interior) just went into production today! Owners Circle still reports a 2/7/03 production start date, but I called the 800-# for the heck of it and found out the great news.

How long does it typically take to go through production (to status 155)? I've seen reports of anywhere from 4 days to around a month.

It looks like my car may arrive (Atlanta area) before the end of February, which is definitely earlier than I had expected (my current '00 540i lease expires April 13th). Anyone know if BMW is offering any sort of lease pull-ahead program currently (in other words allow me to turn in the car early at no cost)?

I'm so excited!!!

the 'production start day' you see in the owner's circle is actually the production completed day.

since your car is in status 150, you can expect your car to be done on 2-7, or 1 day earlier.

i would say it will get to the east coast in early march at best.

Just went 155!

My car went Status 155 yesterday (1/27), eleven days ahead of schedule!

Looks like a late-February to mid-March delivery. I can't wait!

Congratulations and welcome to the board, Dave Sterling/Imola is certainly a beautiful color combination. Looking forward to pictures as I've never seen this combo in person, but imagine it'll be simply gorgeous.

Not sure on the lease pull-ahead program, but a quick call to BMW financial should answer that question for you. I recall seeing another post referring to the same situation, so a search of the archives may also prove to be worthwhile.

The dealership should be willing to work with you on this one. If you have to, tell them that you can't take delivery of the M5 until the other car is off the lease. The dealership is not going to want to have a M5 sitting on the lot, and I know that dealerships can do this because they did it with one of my cars back in '01. We got out of a 528i lease a month or two early.

Good luck,

GNALUZU is right. BMW Finance is happy to extend a lease to accomodate delivery but the dealer should work with you on the last couple of lease payments to get you out early.
Good Luck.

yeah, and if they don't tell them you aren't going to buy the car coming to you or any other BMW for the rest of your life.

Went 160 today (released to distribution)!

Thanks for the great suggestions, guys. Unfortunately my sales person has left the dealership I ordered from (he is now the sales manager at another dealer in Atlanta), so I don't have a relationship with anybody at the dealer. I'm planning on dealing directly with the sales manager when it comes time to take delivery so we'll see what he will do. Unfortunately this dealership is renowned for its "take it or leave it" attitude, so I don't feel too good about my chances, but I'll give it a shot.

Status update: Car went 160 today (1/29). I'm sure I'll never make it, but there's a ship leaving Bremerhaven on 1/31 (the Jingu Maru) that I would LOVE to be aboard... If not it looks like the next ship to Charleston isn't until 2/8, unless they use more than one shipping line.
