Sirius is now available on 3's 5's and X5's without the NAV
Hopefully, Sirius will develop a unit that can be retrofitted to work with our displays. There is a lot of product in the pipeline so it's a safe bet the units will only get better.
Assuming the company survives.

All 2003 model year BMW 3 Series sedan and coupe, 5 Series sedan and X5 vehicles equipped with an in-dash CD radio are compatible with SIRIUS receivers. BMW customers who commit to a one-year SIRIUS service subscription and activate their receivers at a BMW center will receive two months free SIRIUS service plus free activation. Drivers coast-to-coast now have access to SIRIUS' 60 streams of originally programmed, commercial-free music and 40 sports, news and entertainment streams.

I think you will find Sirius will survive. Just think about it -- all of the money invested into the equipment is not going to go to waste -- especially the satellites.
Worse comes to worse, it gets bought out....I would say go for it and have fun. Unfortunately the NAV version is ~6 months out

My dealer faxed my several pages of documentation pertaining to the SIRIUS Salellite radio for the 5 series.
On page one, the last comment of the first paragraph, states:
"satellite radio cannot be installed on vehicles with factory navigation opt. 609.
The satellite system can only be installed with radio's having the built-in CD, located in the dash, no navigation unit.
Sorry Guys, I am also upset over this descovery.
