Dyno Numbers Are In!

All,

Well I took the plunge and put the beast on the Dynojet last night. It was a freebee thanks to EVOsport in Huntington Beach. Good guys there and I am not saying just because they did this for free.

Ok, lets get to the results. There were four runs. The first two did not count because we forgot to pull the fuses to kill the DSC. Of course then we needed to let the car cool down between runs.

The first good run was done in 4th gear. The test went up to 6700RPM and produced 340HP. The second run was in 5th gear and produced 342HP at 6700RPM with a small hit to 348.3HP at the very end.

342HP translates into 402.35HP at the flywheel.
348HP translates into 409.41HP at the flywheel.
This assumes a 15% loss through the drivetrain which is just about right here.

I am pleased with the results that I saw considering the AC Schnitzer wheels on the car are pretty heavy. Now I also have the x-pipe with the OEM mufflers so that could have helped as well.

I was able to see runs by four other M5's and some of the runs are pretty weak from the factory. I believe I saw a few runs in the 328HP range, stock. There were some Dinan S2 package runs that were in the 367HP range as well.

Now I am no expert, but if I have a minimum of 342HP and the Dinan package dyno's out at 367HP, that would equate into 431HP. Not the 470HP we have seen in all the car magazines.

Anyway, not to stir the muddy waters of Dinan discussion, but I was pleased with the dyno run. BTW, I have 22,000 miles on the car and no other modifications. The temperature at the time of the run was 58 degrees and the humidity was in the 60% range.

I will be adding the Autowerke CAI package to the car on the 22nd of this month. EVOsport will be doing the installation and I will put the car back on the same Dynojet and take another run at the horsepower numbers at that time.

If you have any additional questions email me at www.g5harlan@aol.com or pm me. Hope this helps those of you who were wondering about the stock output. You ought to have your own test done just to make sure of what you have. Definitly have a test performed before any modifications are done.

I forgot to mention that the max. torque was 338.9 at 6700rpm with 348.9hp at the rear wheels.

Congrats!

Are those numbers corrected for athmospheric pressure?
Where did you measure the air temperature?

David,

These numbers are at sea level. The air temperature was taken directly in front of the car. Of course we had a couple of fans in front of the car for further cooling aid.

Mark...good job!

Im interested to know why you pulled the fuses because when mine was dyno'd at Active they didnt do anything other than turn off the DSC. HMMM

The Force is strong in that one! 409! Nice...it took me an exhaust with the Xpipe and K&N's to get 415. Man, do i feel underpowered now. BUT, i have AACAI power...430 baby!

Well im very interested to hear about your experiece with EVO and ill be emailing you with some questions. They seem to offer good stuff and they even talk on the board...i like that. You dont see a certain tuner that gets on the board and talks to his people.

By the way, what dyno system was used? Dynojet, dynopack, mustang..the steve dinan "ill bull sh%t an answer about the horsepower and blame it on the dyno/operator" dyno?

congrats again...just remember now its time for more software!

Dynojet was the dyno used. I am not sure why the fuses needed to be pulled in light of turning off the DSC, but I have heard this mentioned before. EVO also tried holding down the DSC button for 10 seconds, but this option did not work so we pulled the fuses. Worked after that just fine.

On with the AA CAI!

fuses

I had the same thing happen to me for my dyno. I tried holding the DSC button in for 10 secs. but it didn't disable it. The head service guy at a dealership told me about this. He said it works but not on all M5's. I also had to pull fuses 17 & 30. Don't pull 31, it also fuses the fuel pump!

Congrats on the excellent dyno numbers. That is exactly what I would have expected from the modifications you have had done to your beast. Cool, very cool indeed!

Now let me ask you this: would you pay $36,000 to add 20 RWHP?, when instead you could buy yourself a fully loaded 2003 Mini Cooper S or 2001 BMW M Roadster or 2000 Porsche Boxster.

Every additional dyno test just drives the point home even further. Thanks for testing your beast.

Cheers
