Anyone remove the front brake shield?

For those who opened up the front brake air ducts, did you remove any of the metal shield near the front rotors that seems to be there to protect the brake rotors from dust and dirt?

If you left it alone, it looks like the air coming from the brake ducts will be deflected by this metal shield and not really provide maximum cooling to the front rotor.

I noticed the M5 that was used for the one lap of america had this metal shield removed. Is anyone else removing this metal shield?

        Thanks,

        BK

I left mine in place when I had the brake ducts installed. I haven't removed them to see if it makes any difference for me.

        with the AA system...

Although i didnt look at the set up before the Active Auto CAI and brake duct system, it looks like that plate is now gone in mine.

        Not removed, but altered....

I did the brake duct mod after my first track session, around 05/00. I left the shields on, but bent them back (opened the front side toward the air channels) to improve flow.

In the 8-9 track events since then, I've not experienced any significant brake fade at Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio, or Roebling Road.

I'm not sure what benefit I would lose in daily usage if I removed the shield. Since I addressed the problem I was most concerned with, I haven't see the need to remove it completely.
