First, to address the thread's question: I wash my car less frequently than if it were a dark color but not because it is a lighter color (silver). I wash it less frequently because, to the eye, it typically needs much more time than dark colors to need a wash, assuming all else equal. (White cars are light colors but seem to need a wash as frequently as black cars, at least here in New England.)
People clean a car, by and large, for 2 reasons: (1) to keep it looking good to the eye and (2) to protect it from whatever might have been done to it (e.g., road salt) or will be done to it. For some people, if the car looks clean to the eye, that's all that matters (my approach).
I would not get a color I didn't like a lot just because it's easy to maintain. However, the ease of maintenance would somewhat influence my choice in color, at least for a daily driver. Fortunately, I love my car in silver.
