03 996TT or 03 SL55
Just curious which one you guys would pick. An 03 Porsche 996TT non X-50 or an 03 Mercedes Benz SL55. They are both pretty close in price. The 996TT has 415 hp and the SL55 has 493hp.

my guess is most on this board will say get the turbo- but how does adding a twin turbo to a 70000 car double the price? I think for the money the sl is a better value, more versatile, more safe, more get laid value (with girls anyhoo) ; though slower, not as fun to drive, more common (i think)

Personally, the 996tt seems like it makes the driver more involved with the manual tranny. Also, knowing what the Houston weather is, the drop top would be nice but then again, it's so hot in Houston in the summer I'd have the top up with the AC blowing!
And finally, with your battle to get the SL55 spot you were allocated by at your dealership, I would stick with what I currently have and spare the hassle.

Well, you've tried the 996TT so why not the MB? Give it a whirl, and let's have another detailing day so we can all see it!

Depends on what you like to do with it? Autobahn stormer is the SL55, also the track choose the 911.
Also keep in mind the usability of the SL55, a convertible in no time.
Also the 996 is also a decent car in winter with 4WD and stability control. Really.

Beware of the darkside. Powerful it may be, but stick with the TT.

Well, so far the Porsche is winning (thank god), and it's vote count includes one from me. I'm just shocked that there are any votes for a 4400 pound gluttonous slush box convertible... Who will be the first person with the guts to defend the SL55 over the 996tt?

Im with Gustav- it depends on your purpose. Not knowing that I voted for the Porsche. I would enjoy driving this more than the MB. although you listed the HP of the vehicles, you didnt list the power to weight ratios. Ill bet the Porsche is better here.
