While I posted earlier that it may not be appropriate to take any action, if it is ultimately decided that a gesture is appropriate, perhaps an idea would be a donation to a charity by those that want to contribute. I have seen this done before, and if this idea is ultimately adopted, I will leave it to others to choose the charity (a note is usually sent by the charity to the grieving party and it could say "Gustav and friends" as suggested above).

While I don't know the specifics of the incident, I kept wondering if the auto-lock feature in the car deterred the occupants form getting out, and prevented the rescuers from opening the car doors.

My car came with the auto-lock feature programmed in. I had my dealer de-activate it after reading about a car-fire incident in an Audi, where it was rear-ended, smashing the battery, thus cutting power to the door locks. The occupants were subsequently burned as they could not get out.

Here's an example of the designers being too fancy and worked too hard just to have a 'cool' feature in the car.

I just hope that did not contribute to buring tragedy. Everyone please drive safe. Life is precious.

Fellow boardmembers, I'm right here in San Antonio TX about 6 miles from Helotes TX where the accident happened. I was out on my bike this last Saturday and rode by the actual spot where the car hit the tree......it was a perfectly straight section of road where the car went off and hit the tree so I'm sure something drastic had to happen in order for the car to go off where it did. It just so happens that one of my employee's husband was a good friend of the family so she is going to check and find out if there is an address or memorial set up in the Wife's name that we might be able to send a note or contribution to on the boards behalf. Gustav, I will take the lead on this if you like so please shoot me a PM when you get a chance and I will keep the rest of the board updated as I get more information. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.

BMWs are designed to unlock the doors on impact...

A fire make the case for installing an on-board fire sytem...like I have in my race car.

Its really makes me think, that safety is the priority period. I am sorry for his loss. I think that we should all try and slow down, I am sure we all speed occationaly but is it really worth it.
