My first New Jersey meet & my early review of the gathering.................

Todays gathering was at a Houlihan's restaurant, located on Route# 17 North Ramsey, NJ. I got there around 12:00 Noon. When I parked my car in the lot, I noticed numerous titanium color M5 cars. (color of my M5 come FEB. of 03) Once I entered the establishment, I noticed a large table occupied by all of the NJ & NY M5ers. The sit down period was very nice for me, since I got to personally meet the members of this board. During this time period, I got to speak with several of the guys, regarding various subjects, which were related to BMWs and the M5 car. In this short period of time, I learned a couple of very important facts, pertaining to the adding of modified parts and aftermarket parts onto the M5 vehicle. As a new member, I have to say that everyone I spoke with, made me feel warm and welcome. All of the guys I spoke & interacted with, seemed to be very down to earth guys and just good people to know. Once lunch was concluded, the group decided to take a cruise "caravan style" from Route # 17 North onto Route # 287 South.
Just about everyone started off by gassing up at a nearby Exxon gas station. Once this was accomplished, everone took off like a bat out of hell! The drive then commenced!
Now, my car is currently a 2000 model 540ia sport with DINAN mods done to the car. The majority of the M5 cars were ahead of me, leading the way on the highway. During this time period, I realized who I was hanging out with, a bunch of SICK OUT OF CONTROL MANIACS!!!!! These guys were flying on the highway, zipping through traffic, weaving through numerous cars on the road, as if they were in the INDY 500. My mouth dropped open! LOL....................
Since I was toward the end of the caravan, I could CLEARLY see the physical gestures and expressions of many drivers on the highway. These people were freaking out and extremely pissed off at our flying caravan. Again, I could clearly see these drivers/people maddly scrambling to retrieve their cell phones from some part of their car. Once they got a hold of the cell phone, these drivers/people would start frantically pressing/dialing the cell phone number buttons. Gee............, what do you suppose they were doing????? It was ssoooo obvious that these drivers were using their cell phones trying to contact a police deptarment, probably the nearest town, that the flying M5ers were traveling on.
I could easlily predict what they were reporting from their cell phones, "Hurry, hurry officer, please come to highway Rt. # 287 such and such location, there's a pack of lunatics all driving BMW race cars, driving at an extremely high rate of speed. Knowing this was taking place, I was dying of laughter. There were times when we were traveling over 125 MPH. Some of the guys (which will remain nameless) were actually driving over the right hand shoulder area and going over a patch of bump warning strips, in order to cut off and pass some slow driving cars on the highway. LOL..................
At this point, I had tears in my eyes, from laughing.
Talk about big balls!!!!!! These guys were animals! The way they were driving was totally insane! I'd have to say that out of the whole bunch the "walkie-talkie" crew were probably the safest drivers out of this group. Im not sure how many of you guys witnessed this, but when we first got started on the Rt. # 17 highway and we were going around the large size U-TURN circle by the Sheraton Hotel, this area of the road was semi icey and wet from the melting snow. I was doing approx. 65 MHP whipping around the hard curved turning point. Well, it was at this area where I almost lost control of my car. The back end fish tailed "wide" hard, the DSC immediately kicked in, and I then took the appropriate measures to regain control of the car. My tires at the momment area winter snow tire, 17 " BLIZZACKS, so there not the best when it comes to gripping the roadway. hehehehe....................
Just before we got to the area of the Route # 80 entrance ramp, I received a call from my wife, asking me if I could come home, for an emergency situation. My mother in-law has cancer and is not doing well, so I had to return home to drive her to Hackensack Medical Center. She is undergoing radiation therapy and her T-CELL count is very low. This made her extremely sick today.
Anyway, for this reason, I had to abruptly end my get together with the NJ M5 group.
The bottom line is, I had an excellent time meeting ALL of you men and it was a blast taking a drive with the OUT OF CONTROL New Jersey M5er group! Thumbs up to all of you!
        Thanks.
Have a Happy New Year Guys.
        Robert
PS Some of the guys took PICS, so there might be PICS posted soon, regarding this gathering.

        Yup, Met Harry..............

He was seated next to me at the restaraunt. I think he was the only one that didn't eat food. he had a drink, some type of milk shake. Friday night, rough night?? huuuuummmmm ?
        He's a very nice guy.
Loved the sound of his DINAN exhaust and the X-PIPE. Wow!!!

Seems like the meets have one thing in common: speed! Seems to be alot of fun!

But be on the lookout for the long arm of the law and other drivers

Of course there were no fuzz.........they were busy writing ME up!!! Haven't had anything on my license in over 12 years, but got HOSED on the way to the meet! THEN I forgot my camera, went home to get it (live close by), then had to go to an emergency at the hospital (No, not a call from my stockbroker). Went back to the meet, everyone had gone, then had to take my kids out for fun, etc. I think everyone thought I was acting strangely, but my day was a little F'D up. Hope to see everyone again, WITHOUT a summons in my hand!!!!
