OT:Phone compatibility

Does anyone know if the 7000 will work in a car that's wired for the 8000?

I've seen the 8000 work in a 7000 cradle, I'm just curious about what happens if the reverse swap is made.

Probably not....people have tried a 7000 with the brains (i.e. box in the trunk that controls the telematics system) of a 8000 and it partially works -- I think you can dial and do all that good stuff. However, gotta be really careful -- get the 'brain' that goes with your phone otherwise you could damage it!

I bought my M5 used, and assumed it had the 8000 kit installed. I purchased the 8000 phone, and everytime I plugged the phone in, the phone would turn off. I was told by the dealer that the car has the older 7000 kit installed.

For now I am back to using a different phone. If you need a 7000 kit, let me know. Mine is doing nothing but sitting in the middle of the arm rest.

I have tried this in the past. The phone will not work! Also, you have to buy replacement phone from BMW, non BMW startac phone will not work either.

That is why I am going to remove the kit, and replace it with a solid leather arm rest. I will not pay $600 for a used BMW Startac!
