checking production status

Hello, all. Season's Greetings. Just found out that my M5 is now scheduled for production. The BMW Owner's Circle order tracking does not provide specifics, though, just an estimated build date of Jan 17th. How can I track my car's progress each step of the way vis a vis the status codes? Do I have to go through my dealer for this information? The Owner's Circle seems to indicate that the dealer should be contacted for additional info.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

That would probably be one way of doing things by contacting your dealership for updates. I had set up an arrangement with my salesperson to send me updates periodically. Another option would be to call BMWNA directly for updates. I'm not sure what the phone number would be for that though.

The phone number for BMWNA where you can get further details on production status is 1-800-831-1117 ext 3. They are very helpful.

My '03 LMB/Caramel arrives in town tomorrow or Monday, I'm delaying delivery until next Thursday, January 2nd to avoid that nasty 2002 luxury tax! Save a grand for a few day's wait was a tough decision, maybe I'll put the dough into mods and make it all worth it!

No more lux tax after the first of the year. It has been gradually phased out over the past several years. I'm waiting, as well!

Like the good Doctor says, the tax is gone in 2003, not just reduced. Oh, happy day (taxes don't go away very often!!)!

the 'owner's circle' sucks, it is weeks behind at the best. for me it says my M5 is 'on order', yet it is status 150. i have been tracking my car every Mon-Fri by calling BMWNA. call that 1-800 number (i believe it is Columbus, OH) that MileHiM5 posted then select 3, then 1. it is by far the best way to track your car other than being at the plant!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll have to start calling BMWNA
on a daily basis to follow my beast through its production.

Hornsch, I can't believe you are already status 150 with a Jan.17th build date. BMWAG can't be that far ahead on their orders I wonder if this represents a drop-off in demand at the end of the e39 M5 life cycle, as I would have thought that there would be a mad rush to place orders before BMW finally pulls the plug.

Whatever the case may be, I feel strongly that all of us that have recently taken delivery or are awaiting delivery are truly the REARGUARD in the brief but glorious campaign of the e39 M5: The once and future king
