Ok this maybe a stupid question.

How quiet is the M5? Say around 140km/h in 6th gear?

Should be very quiet. The noise level will get higher if:

1) Wider tires are being used.
2) Louder exhaust/resonators.
3) Uneven road surface creating torsional forces.

I think wind noise around the side rear view mirrors don't get that high until above 100mph....

Wouldn't you rather be traveling at 140km/h in 3rd gear and listening to that beutiful engine rather than silence?

my bad....its not a lexus, thats for sure. Although its quiet for the speed you are going.

Ycchan,

I too like a car to be quite on the inside (when just cruising) for musical reasons.

There is an option "double glass side windows" which helps a lot. I´ve drven M5s w/o too and those are much noisier.

That option is special order in the US, but I´d be surprised if the dealer can´t arrange it.

Also you´ll need to treat all door seals every three months or so with "gummipflege" (BMW rubber grease).
