New user. Clutches
Hi everyone just joined board. Happy Xmas etc. I have just experienced instant transmission failure after 43000miles with no hint of any slip etc beforehand. Garage said the clutch was gone I disagreed because of suddenness of failure. They say they have fitted a new clutch and problem solved. Does this fit in with anybody elses experience? Also I have read on this board about BMW uprating the clutch for this car. Does any body have any info on this?

Also got a new clutch at 43K miles...
....however, mine was a gradual decline. I first noticed slipping at 34-35K miles. It got really bad toward the end. I've not heard of a sudden, catastrophic failure. It would lead me to conclude that a component in the system failed, as opposed to wore out.

I know nothing of an uprated clutch, other than a minor design change that took place with 05/00 production. As I understand it, a component in the original self-adjusting mechanism was made of nylon and prone to failure. As of 05/00, this was replaced with a steel component. As a matter of fact, my tech determined that indeed it was the self-adjusting mechanism that had failed on my car. As such, it was replaced under warranty.
