        Rear spoiler question....

Which cars had it and which didn't? I am purchasing a 2000 M5 tomorrow and it doesn't have one. The dealer inspected the car and said he thought it should have a rear spoiler. Did some 2000s come without? thanks!

M5s have the spoiler delete option, so perhaps the previous owner of the car opted it out.

        Congrats on your purchase!

The spoiler is double sided taped on. Some just dont like em I guess.

Yeap.. no drilling required.. Spoiler cost around $150. All you need to do is paint and stick.

It is option to order without the spoiler but you don't get any discount for deleting the spoiler. Once you order the car without the spoiler and later decided to have one, you have to 'purchase' rather than get one for free. Go figure.

If you are buying it used from dealership, I would ask the dealership to put one for free. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Does the rear spoiler even give the car added downforce?

Double sided tape doesn't sound up to the job, if it does...

Klint, there were some posts on this before. The small lip spoiler actually does add about 40 lbs of down-force at speeds over 150 mph (I am not certain about the accuracy of these numbers, but it is somewhere in this range).

        Cheers.

Don't underestimate the strength of that tape. Remember race cars when dammaged in the middle of a race repair with 100 mile an hour tape. They just tape them back on and they hold fine, under race conditions.

Plus the downforce is working with the tape, not against it.

I too have heard that the spoiler whilst small, generates a significant amount of down force at speed.

        Regards Mark
