DrKevM5-- Nice way to hide the V1 remote.
First Question: Where's the main V1 unit located?
Second Question: Is there a domestic source for the Euro Fire Extinguisher?
Thanks.

Mattar, thanks loads for posting the pix for me. Hardwire to roof panel done by my BMW tech, all additional installation by me. Incredibly simple: Had instructed the tech to bring wire for remote junction box to underdash area because I couldn't figure out where I wanted to mount the display. Attached remote junction to underdash with velcro so I could easily reach under to disconnect remote. Feed wire to remote display under console (remove console panel of course),pop out the ashtray, drill hole in right side of ashtray depression to feed connection for remote display, cut plastic panel to fit area (purchased large sheet from hobby store for 50 cents!), then cut window for remote face. Cut panel for snug fit, plug in remote display and voila!
Ivory1, unfortunately the main unit is still mounted on the left side of the rearview mirror, but tucked just behind it. STEALTH TIP: add black tape on the windshield where the suction cups would go and they are hidden from the outside!!! Euro Fire Extinguisher was bought at Bekkers, http://www.bekkers.com.

BTW, I prefer to use the V1 without the remote, but because I travel to Canada very frequently I need the remote. They are illegal in Ontario and the O.P.P. like to creep up behind you at night (especially if you have U.S. plates) and hit their radar to see if anything lights up on the headliner. I lost two radar detectors that way.

DrKevM5,
Try to get hold of one of the cheapest detectors out there (it doesn't even have to work) and keep it in the car in case you get caught!
Nice pictures by the way, curious what you think of the BearTracker? Does it pick up Canadian RCMP well?

I *REALLY* like your v1 install Idea. I was looking for a good place and I think you've found it (previously, I've been keeping change ni there, and i use that little slide "pocket" for my keys. theonly key i carry it the m5 key! )
How long of a phone cable did you use to get there?

Bobafett, I just used the cables supplied with the remote display kit. Mounted the junction box just under the steering column.
Eric, never thought to carry a dummy. I'm at Radio Shack tomorrow. I personally like the BearTracker. I turn the volume down on the scanning...I just rely on the police repeater detection. Has saved me against instant-on radar/laser many times. Problem is when it goes off, you are within 3 mi. of a Trooper, but you don't know which direction. Like using any non-V1 detector I guess! :

DrKevM5-- The black tape is a clever idea.
Please allow me to share a V1 mounting suggestion I received at the January 17/18th Spartanburg "Experience" that I will likely pursue -- I haven't yet found a better solution for the M5:
1) Buy a cheap factory rear view mirror replacement kit from any auto dealer;
2) throw away the mirror, or better, give it away as a special gift;
3) utilize the mounting bracket and glass adhesive kit to establish a (non-suction-cup) V1 support platform;
4) attach the V1 to the bracket in a way that preserves the swivel (alignment) action of the original mirror. Warning: This is where the use of tools and talent may be required.
Motivation: In Texas, the suction cup system doesn't stand up to Summer's heat.
Stealth: Sometimes it's difficult to see that which is in view.

Ivory1,
The suction cups on my V1 lasted for years. I used to remove my V1 from the windshield when I leave the car. I broke two suction cups that way.

Maybe I got a bad batch of suction cups with my previous detector (Escort.) Over time, they lost their shape and hardened. The detector would also sag under its weight as the suction cups heated from the sun. This required repeated adjustments to keep the detector level. But I suspect you are right, all it would require is a new set. Since the V1 is heavier than the Escort, I was anticipating that this problem would be worse.
