M5 with Flower Mound Police in Hot Pursuit

I was driving to the grocery at Noon on Sunday, November 17, 2002, headed Eastbound on FM 1171 in Flower Mound TX. I noticed what looked like a Titanium M5 headed in the opposite direction. When he passed me, I glanced in the rearview mirror and confirmed the dual twin tailpipes. "Cool", I thought. I don't see too many M5s in my neck of the woods.

Seconds later, a police car with lights flashing and sirens blaring passed me, headed in the same direction as the silver M5. Out of curiosity, I made a U-turn to see if the police car had pulled over the M5.

About 1 minute later, a second police car with lights flashing and sirens blaring was bearing down on me from behind.

I pulled to the shoulder, and the car passed me at high speed -- also headed in the same direction as the M5.

After following, at normal speed, for about a mile, I did not see the M5 or the police cars. I resumed my trip to the grocery store -- so I don't know whether the police were chasing the M5 or if they caught the driver.

I hope it wasn't anyone here!!

Wow, pretty interesting. You usually do not get to see an M5 chase everyday, unless of course you live in Boston . Was the M5 traveling at a high rate of speed? Since you usually do not see an M5, maybe it was a stolen car? Good find on your part though, maybe you will hear what it was in the paper tommorrow.

I have to say I clicked on this thread mainly to find out what "Flower Mound Police" might be. I pictured an M5 being chased by a squad of enraged gardeners after driving over a flowered highway median strip.

I was getting chased by a boston cop on comm ave in my m5. I nailed it and lost him I pulled behind an apartment complex near the BU bridge and turned of the lights I was being covered by a cadilac escalade so he coudl not see me. That was one of the scariest rides home that I have ever taken Everytime i saw a cop I freaked. I figured I get a huge ticket or even arrested or I try to make a run for it. I will never do that again though I couldnt sleep that night and my passanger almost urinated all over my front seat. By the way I was spotted by the cop power sliding out of Herb Chambers BMW. MAN DO I MISS MY M5.....aahhhhh

For times like that you need a panic button that switches your license plate like James Bond.

I have also recently expierienced a situation like this and iam very lucky to still have my liscence. In Ireland we have just been introduced to the the penalty points system which is also linked to the motor insurers database.
So as you can imagine the local Gardai are a bit trigger happy.

I was just wondering could could ye give me some of your thoughts on some radar detectors i have heard the Valentine ones are good.
Thanks.

Go with the V1! I cannot begin to describe the total number of tickets that I have been saved from over the last two years because of this detector. Others may be good as well, but this one is the favorite on this board. Not that any of us here break any speeding laws from time to time .

Go for the V1, it may be a little bit more, but worth every penny saved from the ticket cost to the insurace costs.

It did not seem to be going particularly fast (at least not for an M5). I don't think it was stolen, but I can't say for sure. There are 4 or 5 other M5s in the Flower Mound area (it's a suburb of Dallas/Fort Worth).

This happened just a few hundred yards West of an intersection that has a traffic signal. Traffic headed Westbound on FM 1171 from that traffic signal merges from 2 lanes to one lane. Cars tend to line up in the left lane, anticipating the merge. More aggressive drivers often try to get a jump off the light, and race up the right lane, then cut in front of the traffic in the left hand lane. The merge area is about the point I saw the M5.

It's possible the M5 was speeding further up the road and got caught on radar or laser, then slowed for the merging traffic, allowing the police to catch up. It's also possible that the M5 did a power launch at the traffic signal, and caught the attention of a police car parked nearby.
