Question: Who would win in a race, a FULLY modified DINAN M5 or a Z06 Vette?

Anyone have the answer to this question? Just curoius to know how much DINAN's complete modification package boosts the M5. Is it enough to stay or keep up with the Corvette Z06 ???
Thanks for your input.

I think the Dinan M5 DS2 would more than hold its own and actually win against a 2001 Z06 (385hp). However, the 2002 Z06's (with 405hp) run a lot faster and would be a match or slightly faster than the Dinan M5 up to about 130mph. The Z06 would be hard pressed to top 170mph so the Dinan would crush it at 150+mph.

But lets remember...it is an apples and oranges comparison. It isn't fair to compare a car right from the manufacturer where ulitmate performance is compromised by bean-counters and corporate policies. Cost is also a prohibitive factor in comparing the two cars.... $50k versus $110k....is a huge difference.

The Z06 will trounce it slightly in every contest. Except it will only carry 2 people!
The Z06 has an incredible level of grip and torque on the race course, that and 900 fewer pounds make for an insurmountable advantage.
They are two incredible cars to own and drive!

the 02 z06 is a tad better in every category. however, it is geared towards 1/4 mile run rather than a highway duel so i would venture to say that a roll- on race would be a close one where the nod still goes to the z06.

i have raced a z06 (dunno about 01 or 02) and from 70 up to about 150 he had 2 cars on me and was very slowly creeping away... and my m5 was bone stock. so a dinan m5 would be a close match for the 02 z06 methinks.

First define what you mean by 'race'.

To me, that implies a track, a real track, not the kind that goes in a straight line for a quarter mile.

And that being the case, the Z06 will eat your lunch.

It's a matter of weight, grip, center of gravity, etc. The 'Vette is a lot lighter, has a better chassis and better brakes.

The Z06 is one of the fastest production road cars around a track anywhere. On a dry track, with comparable drivers, it'll be at least as quick as if not quicker than a 911 Turbo.

If we are talking track, brakes are real important. Does the z06 have good brakes? Compared to the stock M5? (which is prone to fade I heard)

z06 winns

i have a z06 and my buddy has an m5. we took them on the hwy and i blew him away off the line. he cought up really fast and it was close...really close. if we were on the track he could not keep up for nothing (and he agreed with me). moving at 100+, it was almost the same.

(i would rather have his m5 though)

Victor nice post Honest guys are very welcome

The M5 aerodynamics and high speed acceleration are very impressive. I figured that out when going 280 km7h on autobahn in 6th gear with the M3 E36 Euro version with an E39 5 meters behind me then overtaking

Well I'll have the finished product soon. The S2 is being installed as we speak. I will go out on a limb and say in advance that the Z06 will still be faster ... maybe not at the top but who goes there??

That being said it is much easier/cheaper to modify a Z06. Once you start modifying then all bets are off, but I would not worry about any M5 in my Z06.

BTW I think it will be fun to suprise someone in a stock Z06 with a Dinan S2 M5 though.
