New Rogue Engineering Octane Shifter

Just got my new RE shifter put in...what a difference it makes. The entire shifting mechanism now feels like a slightly larger version of a Mroadster/coupe. It took out all the play and slop and it feels so nice. Any one considering a Short shift kit should look into it. At $210 till the end of dec. its a steal. Most importantly, unlike dealing with BMW customer service; Rogue's is spectacular.

Take a look at it at www.rogueengineering.com and congrats to bluemax for purchasing the same kit.

it says on the website that it takes out all vibration and acts like the stock shifter... from previous experience, all the ss kits that I've tried allows drivetrain and vibrations to come through the ss... does the new rogue have the same problem?

all questions answered

Robert, hey man...i havent gotten the pads from MWW yet (bunch of slackers) so i cant have all the stuff that i wanted put on.

CONGRATS on the Xpipe...i knew you would like it. Its such a great noise that comes out from the car now. Mine has actually toned down a little since the car was at the dealer over the past 4 days (Another dealer problem). Im sure they drove the snot out of my car because they needed to road test it for a broken tie rod end. The dealer installed and it took 2.5 hours=180.00 plus tax and shop fees. Im happy with it though and I talked to the mechanic that installed it and he said that the manufacturer (Rogue) did a great job on the fabrication and it a good piece of work. Have it installed by someone and not yourself, is the advice i was given from the tech...the clips for the shifter are little biatches!

Tfung...I tested that shifter all out and there is no buzz in it at all...at least not up to this point. I didnt feel a thing even at high rpm except smooth positive solid lever engagement.

Congrats on the purchase guys!! The short shifter is definately a must have for enjoyable driving. I also have a question. I spoke with Rogue the other day about the M5 short shift kit and was told that due to complaints of stiffness, they needed to go a bit lower on their reduction. Can you guys compare the throws to UUC or Autosolutions? Are they longer, shorter, etc?

As far as the noise, Rogue does a great job by using a dampening collar around the top of the shaft. And I also must say they have some of the best service I have ever seen.

congrats Triflow!

Question, how much shorter is the throw now compared to stock? I guess a percentage. I am in the market for a new short shifter, and I would love to hear more about your Rogue one.

Thanks!

Thanks for spending my money Triflow!

You've managed to knock me off of dead center and finally do a SS. I picked the Rogue unit, but probably will not be able to get it on for two weeks. Let you know more then. If all goes well I'm going to buy a second one for my 540 ("row, row, row your boat...")

Met the owner of RE today

I was very impressed with the RE short shift kit. Ben of RE was at a local club meeting explaining his products.

I have to say the RE selector rod is very stoutly made. However,
I don't think I will be replacing my UUC, for now.....

Has anyone replaced their UUC with the RE short shift kit?

The RE kit is very nicely made kit.

More info to answer questions

Ok, wow...i have never felt so Apples-like in answering questions on this board before.

Boston-I cant comment on any other short shift kits because I have never driven another M with the kit on it. This kit has a 30-35% reduction in throw as well as a (roughly) .65-75" drop in height. It feels so much like a Mcoupe/roadster shifter.

Tfung-kinda misled you on the vibration thing. Over the past 4 days i have been driving a 325I with the auto and have not had to worry about shifting. I was so happy to get my car back that I didnt really pay attention to any shifter vibration...i can now say, after being asked and driving it; that it does have a very very small amount. Its not a big deal if your just shifting gears though.

Rvacha-glad to hear that you picked up the kit, youll be very happy with it. Im glad that im spending other people's money now because i have been doing to much of it with my own.

I dont know of anyone that has replaced a UUC with a RE but I purchased the RE before the UUC because UUC would give you a $50 credit if you got rid of your old SSK for theirs. I figure, go with the people that treat you well and have a good product, and if it doesnt work...get $50 off the UUC.

I should have pictures in a day...i need to get them developed for B&B because I took pics for a muffler issue with them. I will get them up ASAP..and im still trying to borrow my buddies digital cam to take video of the triflow/xpipe combo..
