Jason:
The installer that I have used on several cars here in Houston prepares the area to be covered by cleaning it with alcohol. He says that this insures that there is no contaminants on the surface that might prevent proper adhesion. Alcohol is the only thing that removes Zaino short of abrasives that are stronger than I would use on my car. I would be curious if your guy does this too. If so he is basically removing any glaze or polish you previously applied. I guess it's not to say that the paint didn't benefit from the nutrient oils, fillers ect., prior to being removed by him.

I'm taking a performance center delivery some time in early Feb '03, and I've been thinking about the Stoneguard thing. My plan is to put some breakin miles for maybe up to a week traveling somewhere between SC and FL, and then have the car transported north to my garage for the rest of the winter.

And so my question wrt Stoneguard is: do I have it applied immediately after delivery while there are no chips, or wait until Spring when the paint has had more of a chance to cure? There's been a lot of discusion about the soft paint, and not waxing/polishing right away. But as someone pointed out, you want to be sure to remove any paint swirls before Stoneguard application.

TIA.

Hey guys, this is my first post on this board. I hope I can contribute.

FamilyM5,
Thank you for the kind words. It was a pleasure working with you.

Doug,
Paint cure is no problem on new BMWs. It is cured more than enough at delivery. I have installed a clear bra on a "special" M3 that was flown over the day it rollled off the line with no problems.

I have seen as many as a dozen chips on the drive from the performance center to my shop, so if you are buying a clear bra, I would do it as soon as possible.

The performance center is very good at not leaving swirl marks. If they did, the clear bra would conceal them.
