You made the right choice here.

They should be able to do this one for you. They have done custom jobs before although I'm not sure how this would work if they were to come out to the site for you. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to accomodate your needs.

Just as an added measure, I frequently see them work on exotics at their shop.

And an additional tip for you. When you're detailing your car. Try to apply the wax in the direction opposite of the edges so the wax residue doesn't build up. Use a micro fibre towel to wipe off the residue. A quik detailer also would help as well.

Atomic,

I'm assuming your M5 is Blue? Do you recommend waxing the paint prior to Stonegard application?

Regards, Philip

Phillip,

I did apply cleaner wax, show car glaze and swirl remover polish to the surface area where the Stongard was applied. Wax just makes it slippery and adhesion wouldn't be 100% assured.

So, in retrospec, how would you prepare the surface if you were doing it again?

Thanks in advance, Philip

Find the right installer...

Hey guys,
I have a fair amount of experience with this stuff. I had Armourfend applied on a 328i and an S4, and was not happy with either installation. The experience of the installer makes ALL the difference (in this case, it was their lack of it). I then had Stongard applied to a 330i and my S6 by the installer that Stongard reccomends in the Northeast, the Tint Shop in Edison, NJ. I was very happy with both of those installs, and did have custom pieces made for the 330i. On the 03' M3 I just picked up at the Performance Center in SC, I had a product called Dynashield installed by Mike Messer in Atlanta. He is known as one of the most experienced installers there is for this material. Dynashield is his own brand, and basically while it is the same material, his kits are more comprhensive than Stongard, although he will install that if desired. None of this stuff is cheap, you should expect to pay over $1000 for a QUALITY install, depending on the car. Mike spends about 10 hours on each car, including prepping the vehicle for about 4 hours. The quality of his work is nearly perfect, as in most things, you do get what you pay for. Go to the M3 board on bimmer.org, many people have had their cars done by him. I am quite satisified with his work on the M3, it really looks great and I would use him again in a second. He can also custom cut any pieces you would like on site, and he works on many exotic cars as well. This protection is well worth getting on any car that you care to preserve the appearance on - just make sure the installer is an expert!!! Email me at dc330@optonline.net if you would like any more information.

Phillip: I'd do the same thing I suggested earlier. I do it everytime I get Stongard applied to all my cars (although its just the M5 at this time).

shift: I'd highly recommend going to the Stongard HQ right here in Bellevue. Call them up at 425 451-9505.

Jason,

Thanks for the info. I'm in the California-Bay Area, and will now start looking for a good installer here. Maybe I should start with a search of this site.
