What is the diferrence between OEM bumper and M-Technik splitter like on Atomic's car, other than looks and where to get one? Can black kidney grill be purchased or the OEM has to be painted?

The new grill can be ducted to cool your front breaks, and the kidney grills need to be painted by a body shop

you can order the splitter for the grill at any BMW parts department...

When I had it painted, the dealer (BMW Gallery of Norwell)sent it out to the body shop they use. Did a great job and the paint matches quite well!

The mod is well worth it!

I think you are better of buying the Hamann gril which is has black. The problem with painting the bmw grill is that it is plastic and has a slick chrome finish. I painted mine and after a month is was all chipped up. The paint does not hold on the the grill, unless it is sanded and preped properly. I think you are better off and it will be much cheaper to buy the Hamann grill and have that painted because that is cheaper than having your existing grill preped and painted. I actually just replace my grill with the a factory one today.

I've had my BMW splitter for almost a year now without any problems of paint coming off. I did have Stongard applied to the splitter if that makes a difference.

From what I understand, mine was properly prepped before paint was applied. I'm very happy with the end results as many of you can see.

Gene,

I bought my grille and duct from my local dealership. I can provide you with the part numbers if needed. I then asked a friend to buy the splitter from his local dealership and have his friend at a body shop custom paint it for me. Afterwards, he shipped it out to me. Total cost was around $300 including installation costs.
