I noticed this droning sound upon hard braking recently. The car is a the dealer for an unreated matter and asked them to look into it. They said it was the tire tread??
I have about 2800mi on my Kuhmos and wondered if anyone else with Kuhmos (Greg or Phil) have heard this. Not too sure whether I buy this story.
Any thoughts?

For me, it all started after we ran Sears Point over a year ago. Next time I took the car in for service I complained about the brake noise.
The service writer said "you should take the mechanic out for a ride. "
I did.
He said "it's normal".
I said "No, i have plenty of friends with M5s. The brakes make no unusual noise."
He said "it could be the tires."
I said "I don't think so. Please check it out."
When I got the car back, the report said nothing was wrong with the brakes. But they still made the rumbling noise.
When I next took it in several months later, I complained again.
The service writer said "you should take the mechanic out for a ride. "
I did. (different mechanic)
He said "it's normal".
I said "No, I have plenty of friends with M5s. The brakes make no unusual noise."
He said "it could be the tires."
I said "No, when I last complained about this I had S-02's on the car. Now I have Kumhos. "
He said "well - I think it's normal".
I said "Look. I want you to put a dial indicator on each rotor. If they are within spec, I will let this drop. If they are not, then we know what to do."
He did.
My car came home with new rotors and pads.
End of story.

I have Kumhos and I dont recall anything like this. No unusual sounds from the tires.
I have never heard this droning sound while braking with my Kumhos. Only time any discernable(sp) noise comes from them is under very heavy braking and that is usually just the tire working at its full potential. I would have the dealer look at the rotors as Greg suggested. Good luck and please let us know how you make out.
I think Greg is headed in the right direction with this issue. Sounds like a rotor issue, perhaps pads. Go for a dustless pad upgrade!
BTW, I got the Yokohoma AVS ES100's on the rears. So far, no complaints. Much stickier than the Dunlops. I will have a better idea agter the S.CA. drive next week.
Hope you get the issue resolved. Are going to be down this way anytime soon?

You realize that the common theme amongst you is that your cars are all silver. Perhaps that is the source of the howling !

I think the common thread is track days. I, too, have this noise. Right after my first track event.
I think it may be caused by not bedding in the pads before an event. The pads get bedded in by the hard braking in the event and this may lead to uneven deposits.
If you don't track, you probably don't have this.
Next time I have my wheels off, I'm going to get out my dial indicator.
