Just a quick question.

With a full tank of gas how many miles can the M5 cover? Average, eg: 75mph

depends if it's highway or city... for me:
highway 300 miles (did nearly 400 miles once on one tank of gas before)
mixed 250 miles
city 190 miles

I have seen 420 miles on a single tank at a constant highway speed of 80mph. I believe that equates into about 23.3mpg.

I made it between Los Altos, CA and Ashland, Oregon (413 miles?) on one tank. There were stretches on 505 I did 100. The rest were probably 85 mph average.

If you have the patience to go at 60-65 mph constantly, you can probably squeeze 440-450 miles out of one 18.6 gallon tank. That actually is admirable for any V8 engine, let alone a 400 hp one.

Using the info at this wonderful site you can get the instantaneous fuel consumption in liters per hour. You can literally see the difference in mileage when you switch the A/C off. Here's a little "exercise": find a long flat stretch of road, pick a cruising speed and set the cruise control to that speed. Watch the mileage in 6th. Downshift to 5th, resume, watch again. downshift to 4th, resume, watch again.

Open the sunroof and lower the windows. Can you see the impact of drag?

Turn on (off) all the electrical loads you can along with the A/C (which is part electrical and part directly-driven.)

Etc.


BTW - I DID check my tach against the digital tach in Test Nr. 7 - and my tach is as close as it is possible to read it, until I got to about 6000 rpm, when appeared to be off by about 75 RPM.
