SF Bay Area: Pretty good service experience

Hi Folks.

Since it seems like we get crappy service at SF Bay Area dealerships (Allison, Stevens Creek, etc), I wanted to report on a good experience I had with Claridge's BMW in Fremont. I understand that Claridge's was just bought by Autonation, so perhaps they are putting more emphasis on the service side of things than before.

My Service Engine Soon light has been intermittent for a little while now, going on and off over the course of a month or two. Finally I decided to take it in. Called the usual dealerships, but nobody could get me in without a month wait -- want a loaner? ha ha ha, then try two months.

Finally gave Claridge's a call. Not only could they get me in the next day, but offered a rental car too. Sure it's not a bmw, but hey at least they offered some type of transportation (at my 1200 mile service I had to *rent* a car! )

The service advisor (Richard Deeds) was nice and friendly, and called me in the afternoon with status -- a shorted exhaust sensor. Unfortunately they didn't have the part in stock but they expected it in the next day. Richard then told me he would call the rental company, and extend the rental. In addition, he told me that if it took more than the extra day I could come in an trade the rental for a bmw loaner.

The car was completed as promised the next day, and they followed all of my instructions including not washing the car.

This is my first experience with Claridge BMW service, but they'll be my first choice the next time I need work done. Hopefully they will keep it up!

Bailey,

Do keep us updated on your experiences. Nice to know someone cares, even if it's across the bay.

I took my Z3 to Claridges 6 weeks ago to have a factory recall(crank sersor) performed. The service guy was very nice.

The machanic finished the work and brought the car up front for me. Problem was that the car was running on 5 cylinders, not 6. It was obvious for me to tell, but not the mechanic. I pointed it out and he corrected it (disconnected harness next to the work performed). I think it's all hit and miss. If you find a good service advisor AND mechanic, stick with them.

Philip,

I agree I have been taking my car to Claridges ever since I have owned my M3. Yes, I agree about the hit or miss situation. And on the loaners in a couple of instances I've gotten an F150 XLT and a GMC Yukon. Its nice that they are also expanding the dealership since they have outgrown their current spot.
