I hope the M5 driver knew what he was doing because I just voted for him. As usual with this kind of performance it's up to the driver....

Dont worry... hes a good driver plus hes a board member on here so you could hear from him too. But could the M5 strike back at the previous M owner?

The M5 will win...probably very easily. Would you like my hypothesis?

First of all, tuner cars rarely produce times that are commensurate with claimed horsepower/torque increases. Maybe this is a result of the horsepower testing being done in too clincal of an environment where everything is optimized.

Secondly, look at the cars that provide the foundation for each vehicle. The stock 540i 6-speed with 282hp (now 290hp) will trounce a 302hp SL500. The SL500 will be lucky to hit the 1/4 mile in 14.2 seconds compared to a best 14.0 second time for the 540 6-speed. Now give each model a 120hp shot of adrenaline and the results should remain the same.... the M5 should walk away from the SL 6.1. The 20" rims will only hinder the Brabus' performance.

Lastly, it's an M5..... I rest my case....

The top-of-the-line 6.1-liter version delivers 426 hp / 313 kW at just 5,400 rpm, and produces a gigantic maximum torque of 621 Nm at 4,100 rpm. With this engine the roadster accelerates in 5.4 seconds to 100 km/h and reaches a top speed of 296 km/h.

Hmm, intersting. Similar performance. But the M5 will take the lead in high speed acceleration. ALOT of torque though. Hmm, would be a tie if the SL didnät have the 20 inch wheels.

Now the M5 will wiin above 120 mph

If I am not mistaken, the latest issue of "Dupont Registry" features an article on the Brabus SL 6.1 . I'm going by memory and I don't recall out of this world performance numbers on the car. I would have thought similar to an SL 55, however it was not. To me, it just appeared to be a mundane sports car. So my vote goes for the M5

Brabus

After taking delivery of my car in early 2001, I raced an absolutely credible looking Brabus S V12 on the freeway in Los Angeles. This car looked absolutely identical to the official Brabus pictures for this model.

On the highway from 85 or so to about 135, I was able to pull distance on it. There was no question in the world that my M5 accelerated better than it did. The car had special large Brabus wheels on it. The Merc. had open ground to run, and could not manage to out accelerate the M5 at any point.

No one on this board seemed to believe that this was a real Brabus, but I am convinced it was. Do a search for "Brabus V-12 encounter" for the story.

I said i would post the answer after and today is day 2... But what the heck here it comes...

Ladies and gentlemen. boys and girls...PLEASE ADD a big fat 1 under M5's kills please!!!!!

Yes it is true the M5 won! According to the driver, he said the SL pulled its bumper through second gear but the mighty M5 pulled a CAR AND A HALF through third !!!!! and still kept pullign ahead and pull one car length with every gear he shifted right upto the limiter kicked in. WOW i really ddint expect it kill the SL ! So lets celebrate now

They tried again from 140 km/h witht he same result. They tried 3 more times from 0 with the same result. The mighty M5 just proved too much for the SL.

Enjoy everyone
