My OEM square setup

Finally, got around to this. Got my wheels repainted too so they match all around. I know, it's not the elusive shadow chrome finish, but re-touched wheels are re-touched wheels man! :hihi: 3mm spacers up front, style 65 18 x 9.5.

For those with a square setup, anyone notice how little hub space there is with the 3mm sacers? I have the ECS Tuning spacers.

Sexxy stance isn't it? Did the same thing and refinished all the wheels when I got my set. It's never been so hip to be square, yes? :grinyes: :3:

Hey mate can you let us know if these works out? I would like to get my square setup running on KW v3 too. TIA

Looks fantastic. What are your impressions on changes to handling and steering feel?
I love it. It feels a bit more weighted, a little more feedback, very much like when you hit the Sport button, the steering gets a little heavier. I went out to a car meet today and did 40+ miles both ways, no tramlining or extra tire noise, etc. No kidding a very good mod for the car!

Again, anyone with the square setup notice that there is very small amount of lip on the hub for the wheels to go on with 3mm spacers? Just trying to be sure I fit the spacers on right. I guess what I am saying is the wheel will not stay on without you having to hold it, and put on at least two bolts. In any case, I am confident the wheels aren't going to fly off with a total of 450 foot-pounds holding each:wroom:

^ Yeah, for sure! That and an Evolve Tune are on the horizon.

Dude, you've been talking about that Evolve tune for almost a year. What's the issue?

^ I've read something along those lines, but I went with the proper longer bolts for the 3mm spacers.

Your car looks amazing with the square setup - did that with my E36 M3 and wouldn't mind doing this on the M5. Can you please tell me where you got your foglight surrounds - I am toying with the idea of a CAI and would need something like that.

Doug, you'll be fine with the 3mm spacers. I've had the same setup for over 8000 miles, including ~600 miles of punishing track time. You don't want none of that staggered understeer when you over cook a fast sweeper, trust me! As a side note, my left front wheel bearing developed a click (I ran predominately clockwise tracks), and the power steering fluid needed several refreshes. However, I attribute those accelerated wear directly to severe driving conditions on the track. You car looks great, so enjoy it!

^ It's a possibility, I didn't pay much attention to how much real estate the rotor hat takes up on the wheel hub.

Yes, you then only need the smallest of hub lip for the wheel to center. Of course - if you have too wide of a spacer (10mm etc) you then need to have a spacer with a built in lip (most seem to have that). Still the alignment is a lot easier with studs.
In reality, for anyone that switches wheels more than once a year, studs are so much easier...

Flush?

I've spent the last couple days reading about running a squared set up with the OEM 65's. However, I'm still wondering- will a 3mm spacer (on stock suspension) up front bring the wheels out far enough to sit near flush with the fenders? And if not, what size spacer would? This set up seems to look the best when the wheel wells appear filled out.

This is what my car looks like with a 5mm spacer. Not the greatest picture, but you get the idea. I have stock suspension in the front.

The 3 mm spacer (which is required) does a great job with the 18 x 9.5 OEM wheel to fill the wheel well. Your other option is a 5 mm spacer, but I think (don't know for sure) the rubber of the tire may stick out near the top of the fender.

As it sits now and with a nice drop (which I plan to do eventually), it will look bueno.

Can anyone talk to having a square setup with the Bilstein PSS components? Or, do I need to revert to the stock wheel setup up front?
