If I wanted an M5 but had to have a Convertible I would drive a ? ? ?
I love a ragtop - my SoCal roots (Santa Barbara and San Diego if you must ask).
I've previously posted about almost being seduced by a '01 996 C2 Cab while waiting for my M5. I was just wondering - what's the consensus / diversity on what we would drive if it had to be topless?

If you still needed seating for four, which I do pretty regularly, I might wait for the E46 M3 rag top. Another good selection would be the CLK55 convertible but I don't it's available yet for another year or so. The new Lexus SC430 I think it's called, has a removable convertible hardtop but you would loose all storage space with the top off.

If you could wait- perhaps the M3 convertible would be an option.
Ferrari- no, it'd cost you several thousand dollars per service visit.
Bently- perhaps, but that comes from a different place than the Germans
if you must have a Porsche, check out the Boxter S- thats probably their best car for the dollar- and IMHO their best styling for any price except for the upcoming GT2.

While a Ferrari is costly to service, it has a ownership joy that no other car can give you. Out of the five I have owned, I do not regret any of the money I have spent to keep them running. If you can afford one, get one. It will be the automotive experience of your life.

I like these selections. I went ahead and got the vette vert to satisfy my convertible want. The vette is a nice (cheap--in comparison) alternative to the ones listed above. Close in performance to the z8 and the spyder and better than the cab.
