Angry prices of upgrades!!!!!!!

I have read several threads that mention the cost of upgrades for the M5. I think that the prices of mods are rediculous for our cars. $2000 for a cold air intake is highway robbery. $500 for a front strut brace is just as bad. I owned a 98 Supra T/T and a strut brace was $190 bucks for the front $175 for the back. A cat back exaust was $795.00. and a free flow intake was $75.00.
Dinan should be ashamed of the prices of their products. Just because you own a $75k car does not mean you should pay overly inflated prices for add ons. Also for a $75K performance car you think they would include strut tower braces as standard equipment. Honda does... on a $20k Civic SI! When I bought my '02 M5 I thought I would not need to mod such a high performance automobile, but of course you start looking at what you can do.......until you look at prices. At 35 years young I have worked hard to make my money. I'll be ****ed if I make some other whore rich by paying a kings ransom for overpriced mods!
Keep'um and let some other idiot make 'em rich!!!!

Just a Thought!

I think the problem here is that there are not that many M5s around to make enough market to keep the prices down. I'm guessing that there are a lot more Supras on the streets. With so few cars, the suppliers have to charge a lot to cover their development costs.

I can see that point but lord knows there are planty 5 series cars on the street also. Alot of these products can be used on all 5 series cars. I guess the strut brace price is what really gets me here.

Dinan stands out when it comes to prices, or am I wrong?

The problem is Dinan has a monopoly. He also has high developmental costs and very small customer demand. He has to recuperate his costs somehow and make a small profit while ensuring high-quality products. If there was more competition in the U.S. market, prices would be forced to come down.

What about other companies like ACS? How much do their strut braces cost?

I hardly believe that a CAI for an M5 will fit on the 530. Try to add some ghetto tubing and some duct tape and maybe lol

The strut brace on the other hand...i dunno...500 isnt THAT bad...I acnt remember how much i paid for my Rod Millen one on the GS...some like 250-300 I think...

I agree with you that the prices seem steep, but as the owner of a manufacturing company, I hear that from customers and prospective customers all the time too. When they say something is expensive, I ask them "compared to what?"

I suppose this a great opportunity for someone to go into competition with Dinan, et al. If the market really is so big and the margins are so fat, then it should be a sure-fire business opportunity for someone. Right now you have three choices:

1. Pay their price
2. Have it custom made or make it yourself (at which point you'll find their price to be pretty attractive)
3. Do without

I think the free market sets the price. I would have to assume if the current manufacturers were not selling product that the prices would come down. If they were making obscene profits, then competitors would enter the market.

My two cents.
