Summary RS6 + video test of the RS6 Sedan

RS6 Sedan test video here in German (nice sound, but not as nice as M5):

http://www.bmwm5.com/movies/RS6-VOX.avi

Short summary from the best magazine out there, German Sport Auto. They tested a red RS6 Sedan with auto gearbox because Audi didn't have a manual car available for the test :

...BMW M5 is the benchmark of the powerful luxury sedans.

The S6 based engine modified by Audi owned Cosworth.

The 4WD gives the best traction, clearly. Although the Torsen middledifferential does unstability in the handling -simply because those changing force dispatching between the axles supply does not function well enough.

In the Ameisenkurve on Hockenheimring does the brakes not do a good job. 9,9 m/s^2 is average nimber for deceleration.

...the brakes are on the limit what the can do because of the kinetic energy.

One side is the high brakepower, the other side is the high weight and the possibilities of the tyres. The deacceleration is average for sportlimousins. Not only becauseof the wieght but the tyres, Cointinental SportContact 2.

Test slalom 36 meters:

RS6: 118 km/h

M5: 124 km/h

0-200-0 km/h

RS6: 24,4 s

M5: 22,1 s

Transverse acceleration:

RS6: 1,1 G

M5: 1,1 G

Hockenheimring:

RS6: 1.17.6
M5: 1.17.6

...as an evolution of the RS4 the RS6 haven't -as excpected- not fulfilled. Because of the higher weight and it's automatic transmission which not is the nature of a sportscar.

In the end it's an interesting alternative to the BMW MM5 which has been the choise for years.

Sum:

Audi RS6: 41 points

BMW M5: 41 points

Test in magazine

RS6: September 2002

M5: March 1999

Price RS6 : € 86 500

Price M5: € 74 500

After three and a half years Audi came close. But read this months Evo

Can't see the video. Real Player says something about not being able to find a "suitable compressor" and Media Player returns a codec error. The audio is OK. Any other access to the video?

Hey Gustav, say where did you get that picture from

And, by the way why did you forget to mention the M5 was slower on the Nurburgring?
