European delivery on M5 ?

Has anyone had experience with European delivery for the M5 and shipment back to the U.S. after touring in Europe?

I've placed my order for a new M5 and am eagerly anticipating August delivery. I am working with Performance BMW in Raleigh NC. Their website has a great section with details on the European delivery program ... they assured me that I can pick the car up in Germany and enjoy touring in Europe for a couple of weeks. This is in direct contrast to Fred Opert's dealership in NJ telling me that the M5 delivery was not available in Germany.

I still plan on participating in the M5 driving school at the BMW - Spartanburg performance facility after I return and have completed the break-in period for the car.

My wife & I have never been to Germany , or driven on the Autobahn ... we are looking forward to the experience.

Tell your dealer he is wrong: it is possible to pick up your M5 in Germany. Several people on this board including myself have done it. It is a fantastic experience. The only difficulty is to respect the brake-in procedure while driving on the unrestricted Autobahn or on twisty mountain roads in the Alps... Have fun!!!

Euro Delivery has been available on the M5 since early 2000.

No discount from US-dealer-lot MSRP, at least as of when we did ours.

But IMO it's worth doing anyway.

Thanks very much for the responses. We have the August delivery in Munich scheduled. I had a feeling that it would be a challenge to respect the break-in period with the wonderful roads in Germany ... we plan to head south into Austria and perhaps northern Italy. Are there any specific routes that you recommend thru your experiences?
