M5 Parts Needed. CAN ANYONE HELP?? Please?
I have a 540 steptronic with M5 kit and original wheels that I'm trying to turn into an M5! The reason being is that due to an accident many years ago I have to drive an auto. I would really love to make my car identical to an M5 but need some parts. I'm always learning every day that something is different on my car. Even though it looks almost identical to me!! So I need a set of mirrors, speedo, someone told me the HeadRests are different too??!! So I need them, I would also be interested in other bits I dont have that you guys or girls can help me out with that you think I might need! I read on here somewhere that the interior mirror is different too!! Is this true?? Please please help!!

I'm sorry to hear that u cannot drive a manual car due to reasons but yes the interior rear view mirror is differnt too...
trunk spoiler
quad exhaust
side molding <---- leave out cuz says M5
side mirrors
front air dam
wheels
rear window molding
interior rear view mirror
steering wheel
speedo/tako meter
seat is different and yes i think the spacing of the head rest is different so u cant just insert a M5 head rest into a 540 seat.
Ummm as for looks I cant think of any others at the moment.
Oh and yes obvious difference is the M5 badge. Are u going to put a M5 badge on there too? or leave the 540i badge? I say leave the 540i badge. Reason: people who know the car will be able to tell and know it doesnt come in a automatic transmission. people will call u a poser and such. I for one do not like to see M5 badge on a NON M5. I dont mind people modding it to look like a M5 as long as they keep the original badge on it.

.... I think you would want the M5 engine in it as well if you want to make it really identical to a M5.... not sure how you would come around to put it in the car and make all the electronics, etc work...

Nice try... A poseur is a poseur is a poseur..... Nice try w/ your medical excuse, but you won't get any sympathy from me as I too!! have had an "accident" years ago, and struggle w/ it on a daily basis.
If you really have a problem and cannot drive and want an M5, then spend the $$$ and convert a M5 to an auto or SMG. I would definitely have more respect for you.
I've read your post several times and Sorry pal... but I can smell horse$schitt when I step on one. It is clear to me that you have NO intention to convert the 4.4 litre engine to a S62 engine, and basiclly, you just want the others to think you have an M5. Yes, its your car, and you can do whatever you want with it. But I can freely express my opinion as well.... and I say take a HIKE loser!!! Be proud of what you have/can afford and don't be a poseur.

P.S. I know my post is harsh, but I am trying to drive home my point.

I'm leaving the 540i badge on. But would like to source the othere parts. I relly like the styling of the M5 and the chrome rings etc around the dials. I have all the genuine M5 parts on my car at present accept for the mirrors, instrument cluster and interior mirror. I have the 2002 Xenon Headlights as my car is 2002 and the the M5 Front Grill. You said the rear window molding was different?? What is different about that

Beewang,
Chill out buddy. He is a new board member and is asking our opinion. Voice your opinion, but there is no need to insult the guy. If anyone looks like a loser on this thread it is not him.

Not cool Bee....
Anyway, I think another difference is the chrome frame around the windows. I think someone mentioned that the chrome was available on the M5 for the first year...but not in '02.
I am sure that there are a few more differences....

Got that chrome aroundf the windows sorted from day one. Ordered the car without!! Thanks for that tip anyway. Really need to find that speedo, it look's fantastic. Another route I was going to go was to get the ACSchnitzer 200mph speedo but not sure if I have to send them the unit from my car or if I have to buy it complete from them!! I tried e-mailing them but they just tell you to concult your local dealer, which I did but they have yet to find anything out for me. But I would still like top get my hands on the original M5 Speedo. I can buy one from the dealer but it's mad money. However it's looking like I'm going to have to go that way and but it new! Does anyone know of any E39 M5 for dismantaling anywhere??
