Fatter tips for TubiStyle Exhaust

Just had my TubiStyle exhaust replaced because one resonator did not fit correctly. As a result, I got the new updated design (now three pieces instead of two) which included 1/4" fatter tips. The orignal Tubis had 2 3/4" diameter tips (same as stock), but because of the thickness of the tip walls, the whole tips looked smaller than stock -- which looked kind of crappy.

With the new 3" tips, it now looks as awesome as it sounds (a lot like a 550 Maranello). I highly recommend the Tubi because it is a complete system -- going all the way to the cats and it just sounds unbelieveable from the outside. Before the Tubis, I had the SuperSprint and then the BB Tri-flo (both of them use the factory resonator) -- the is simply no comparison in sound.

Learn from me -- I bough the cheaper ones thinking they's all sound about the same -- wrong. The Tri-flos popped like crazy on deaccleration -- the SuperSprint sounded like stock -- only it has HUGE tips that would look better on a motorcycle.

The M5 is expensive -- but we buy it because it proves to be worth the extra money over say a 540i because of the way it performs. Same deal here -- the Tubis cost about double of their competition and they are worth every penny extra. Just remember if you do end up getting them, make sure you are getting the set with the bigger tips (eay to tell -- the small tip version is a two-piece kit -- the bigger tip version is three separate pieces (two mufflers and resonater/center section)

Picture

I will try to remember to take a picture tomorrow. In the meantime, just imagine them looking exactly the same as they did -- only bigger and just-right looking.

By the way, the guys who installed it did it as a favor to Tubi -- Tubi wanted a shop they knew well to do the install since there was a problem with the first version. Anyway, the shop (called Rosso Corsa in Melbourne, FL) normally only works on Ferraris. They were the ones who told me that it sounded so much like the 550, that they couldn't tell the difference unless they looked out the window (they have a customer with both the 550 and an M5).

Anyway, I never had heard a 550 in person -- I'm just taking their word that they sound alike. But either way, the Tubis sound way better (and I mean waaaayyyy) better than anything else you can get.

This is an old thread, but I wonder did anyone ever get a sound clip of the Tubi. It sure looks like the Business.

I wouldn't mind my beast sounding like a 550.

Hey Mark.. I think we all would but in my opinion our cars can "never" sound like the 550.. We have a V8.. the 550 is a V12.. the sound pulses do not and can not be similar..

However, after a good bottle of Red, even I can be convinced that there is a similarity

Got yr wheels yet?

Hey Andre,

LOL on the Red.

Still waiting on the wheels. Latest news, Bob B has recieved the order and was supposed to ship them Today.

The Tubis are a cat back and look real sweet and I like what I am hearing about themn not being loud when cruising.

They seem to be very under rated. Probably because they are in the upper price bracket. But I don't mind paying if they deliver the results.

Bryan,

I have been fortunate enough to have seen and heard the tubi's on an M5. The only drawback as I recall, it has been some time since I saw the exhaust, was that the pipes extended out further than the stock pipes by at least a couple of inches. It was noticable enough to look a little odd escpecially in light of the smaller width of the pipe walls as you pointed out above.

If you get an opportunity, take a pic next to a stock pipe just for comparison purposes. Better yet, measure the stock pipes that are off of your car if you still have them.

Thanks. Sweet exhaust system.

Mark
