The wheel is 18" and clears e9x M3 brakes so may fit our M5s without a spacer like it fits theirs! The hub is already 74.1mm so we don't need adapters like the e9x guys, see here:
the e9x guys use this spare:
Maxxis T135/70R18 104M M9500N (#TP10655100), $85 + $10 shipping + $12.50 mount & balance
total cost would be $185 + however much the tire costs today (that pricing is from 2009) so would be much less than the BimmerZone setup and may not require additional spacer
I am going to see if I can find any e90 guys in NJ that have it so I can test it on my M5 for us all
I'm soon going to go to a square setup. If you're interested, I can sell you one front OEM Style 65 wheel with tire mounted to serve as a spare. $100 + shipping costs (which is probably ~$35 to NJ).
If I try to find someone outside of NY/NJ would one of you be willing to do the test fit? if so let me know your approx area and I'll see if I can find any e90 guys with the wheel in your area.
From the thread I saw guys in Oregon, Texas and Cali if my memory is correct
This would be a good alternative to the over priced Bimmerzone offering. I could never justify the price for that and use a full size front wheel/tire in the trunk.
Me too because my car came with two extra fronts it wasn't worth 350 for a donut... But like you probably feel, it would be great to get some trunk space back from a full size spare to a donut!
I have an e70 with the spare actually, however I'm deployed right now so I can't test fit for another two months. I'll watch this and update it if no one gets the answer by then.
Ok is there any chance there is a member willing to do the test fit around McLean Virginia? Someone on M3Post has one he is willing to meet up and let us test fit it... Let me know, thanks!
anyone in DC / McLean area free to try to test fit the spare? found an e90 guy with one and he will let one of us stop by and try to test it the wheel for clearance check
Only 3.5mm difference in diameter between this and the stock rear tire (stock being 3.5mm larger). This is about 0.5% difference, totally acceptable for use. Hopefully this works for fitment, look forward to an update.
I have just placed an order for the X5 spare wheel (36-11-6-768-861) and I'll do a test fitment over my Stoptech brakes when it arrives and update this thread.
If it does, I'll get a tire mounted and update with that info, too.
The wheel arrived and I did a test fit over the rear since I already had the wheel off and it fit well with about an inch of clearance at the caliper. Have not tried out the front.
Will get a tire ordered and mounted in the near future.
Isn't the front rotor about an inch bigger than the rear? Would love it if you verified the front fitment of wheel only. Appreciate your time in posting the info you already did as well. Thanks!
[edit, if its 1" diameter bigger you'd be 1/2" clear]
If you run a square setup, front clearance won't really matter. Swap a rear to the front and spare to the rear. It certainly would be easier, however, if the spare cleared the front stock and most of the popular BBK's.
I took off one of my front wheels and found out the following:
1) I have slotted rotors that measure 14" in diameter.
2) The wheel fits over this rotor and StopTech caliper with less than an inch of clearance at the narrowest point.
I don't have calipers to do an exact measurement, but I would guess it's 2/3". I'd be nervous about a 17" wheel fitting.
