A group of us (mostly Taurus SHO owners, actually...) are going to Speedring in San Jose this Saturday. There are still some slots available. Email me for contact information if interested.
WHEN: If you want to eat there, plan to arrive around 12:00. They have a deli on site for salads and sandwhiches, soft drinks, etc. otherwise plan to arrive no later than 12:45 so that we can get organized. Suit up is 1:00, track time from 1:30-3:00.
WHERE: From 101, take the Great America/ Bowers exit South. After you go under Central Expressway, take the second right onto Mead. If you get to Monroe you've gone too far. Speedring is the second building on the left (2900 Mead). Or from 280, take Saratoga Ave. north, left on San Thomas, left on Monroe, right on Bowers, left on Mead. Zip code 95051-0805 if you want to get a map from the web (thanks for the link, Paul!)
COST: $75
BRING: Snell 95 or newer helmet if you have one (motorcycle helmets OK). All other safety equipment will be provided.
SESSIONS (S1-S6):
S1/S2: practice, arbitrary split between participants
Based on best lap times, bottom half use S3 for qualifying, top half use S4 for qualifying.
Based on best lap times from qualifying, bottom half use S5 as their race, gridded according to qualifying time. If we have less than 24 people, S5 will be an elimination heat, with the top finishers going through to the final race.
S6 is the final race for the top half of the qualifiers gridded according to qualifying time. If we have less than 24 people the top qualifiers are followed by the top finishers in the elimination heat gridded by position in that heat. So there will be 12 contestants in this final race.
EQUIPMENT PROVIDED:
Helmet size 6 3/4-7 7/8. Or bring your own Snell 95+ helmet (motorcycle OK). They also provide you with a Balaclava for hygiene reasons.
Driving suit sizes 46 to 64 (has to be Kart-specific...resist abrasion, not fire).
Gloves have to be abrasive-resistant. Regular racing gloves won't work.
Cervical collar provided.
Shoes not provided: bring your own (no open toes).
Karts can definitely take people from 4'11" to 6'4". If you are outside this height range, you may still be OK. If you are over 250 lbs, seat width could be a factor.
