Has anyone used this window repair kit... welcome111 to repair their rear window regulator. My passenger side rear window closes up to an inch of the top of the window seal; then I have to use my hands to push it further. After driving for awhile it drops back down an inch so not good on rainy days not to mention what will happen when the temps drop outside. It only goes down about half way and then you hear a lot of clunking before it just stops. I assume this means that the regulator is still good and it just has a cable issue which is what the kit for this website fixes. The YouTube videos (DIY) on the web site look convincing although they are using a non-M5 e39. I purchased the kit and will hopefully give it a try this weekend. Taking the door apart does look like byatch of a job. This is supposed to be a cheap fix for what may be a defect on the e39 rear windows only.
I had a problem that I lowered my right rear window and it never went back up. I took it apart and said "F" it, I ordered an aftermarket one from ebay, slapped it in and it's been fine. I did see all youtube videos on how to and they were amazing on how to take it apart. good luck but I would just buy the assembly complete..
I do have an aftermarket and it's been fine for over 3 months. I don't roll the window down everyday, but when I do it works just like factory. If you can spring for an OEM one, go for it. Good luck!
FYI, this is the guy I purchased from. He sells other "colorful" items as well.. lol
I replaced my passenger rear regulator with an aftermarket one from eBay over a year and a half ago and I've had no problems with it. Given the window has probably only been up and down maybe 25-50 times since then.
If the weather is good tomorrow i will start the install. Hopefully can get it done in 2 hours or less.
