No M-Mobility kit

Just looked in trunk and saw no m-mobility kit, the salesman said the car has run flat tires which posts here seem to contradict.
Is the m-mobility kit right in front of the battery case? In my car that spot is empty. I have golf clubs in my trunk right know so i could not lift the carpet up to see all the way to the backseat.
This is a 2002 model delivered in July. Could the car have run flat tires now?

My '02 was delivered in Oct last year. I had the kit. You have to lift a couple panels before you get to it though. You SHOULD have it.. I haven't read anything anywhere of the cars being sold with run flat. What type of tires did yours come with? I've heard of them either having Dunlop's (like mine) or Michelin Pilot Sports. If they are the Michelins I believe the Michelin run flats have a "ZP" designation on the tire side wall (for example: Michelin Pilot Sport XGT Z4 ZP). It looks like Dunlop's say "DSST" on their run flat tires.. So look for those designations on your tires to tell if your dealer knew what he was talking about. BTW - Which dealer did you go to? Passport?

M,

This doesn't sound right to me at all. If BMW were going to use run flats on our cars, this board would know about it. Don't think I've heard mention of this at all.

Go on home and take out the golf clubs. The next instruction is extremely important: Grab a Corona and place it in the freezer. Head back out to your beast and remove the netting and trunk cover. The M Mobility System should be right there in the middle.

Next, go get the beer and your phone and let the salesman know that he's ignorant about the E39 M5! Please let us know the outcome.

Good luck and welcome to the board. You have great taste in cars.

FYI, to the best of my knowledge only the Z8 comes with run-flats.

Yes, you might want to double check. I originally thought I did not have one also, but I stared at the picture and finally figured out what compartment they mean. Yes, it is in front of the battery, under some other stuff . . . Kevin

Tom Salkowsky commented at the BMWCCA dinner here in July that BMW does not install run flat tires on the ///M cars. (Note before replying: the Z8 is not technically an ///M car.)

BMW reportedly does not think the current run flat tires are suitable for high performance driving. Tom did say that more and more manufacturers are moving to the use of run flats, and that BMW might eventually install run flats on ///M cars when the tires are sufficiently well designed.

As noted above, to find the im-Mobility kit (pun intended), you'll have to pull out the foam panels under the trunk liner, forward of the battery.

Your salesman is an uninformed idiot. Sorry to be blunt, but that's what I do for a living.

It is not directly under the trunk cover in mine, you must also lift out some styrofoam as well to see into the bottom of the well. No way BMW has started installing run-flat tires yet.
