Electrical Gremlins ???

Driving in Manhattan yesterday after a 50 mile or so spin up to Connecticut, about 85 and humid outside ( my dash said 103 ), temp gauge was fine - suddenly, my ABS and other lights flash, radio goes off and car shuts down. I turned the key and the car did restart immediately - the only thing I noticed was that my trip meter had reset to zero. I would normally have this checked out, but I'm heading out of town on Thursday for a 500 mile trip in the M5, and I won't have time to have this diagnosed. Any ideas ??

BE CAREFUL

That does not sound like an electronic gremlin. More then likely you have a cracked battery. I had the same symptoms, and my battery was cracked and seeping acid all over. Pls get it checked out..........especially if you are going on a long drive. If it is a cracked battery you will eventually loose power and could damage the cars sheetmetal.

It very well could be a cracked battery, but first I would check the cables. You lost all power and my guess is the negative battery cable is lose.

Absolutely have it checked out

You don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere... in a cell phone dead zone.

Just drop in at BMW of Manhattan ask for Fernando & he'll hook you up I mean the beast . Be sure to tell him I sent you, he owes me big time.

Enjoy the trip, the Beast is perfect for those long distance jaunts. I bet you won't see one 996tt the road. After all the tt can barely hold a toothbrush

I'm also leaving town on Thursday but in the minivan

Have a safe trip, our best to the familia.

Thanks for the info guys, I will have this checked out tomorrow. Max - have a good trip yourself, and thanks for the BMW Manhattan reference. I also have a top notch guy there - Stuart, who I've spoken with on this isue. If you're ever in a bind and Manny isn't around I highlly recommend Stuart. Looking forward to some September drives !!

Rgds,

Bill

I've had just that once. Would definitely advice you to check the cables. I noticed you have to make sure the whole connector is around the post of the battery when you tighten it, or it will creep off with time.
