Yellow engine light, two codes: 105 and 170, advice please

Hi, I have just got the yellow engine light for the first time. I pulled the codes and they are:

Code 105: Plausibilisierung Motortemperd

Code 170: Sekundaerluft Mindestdurchfluss

Sorry for my poor German! The first code I reckon must be the engine temp. It has had a new thermostat recently so could that be the temp sensor. If so does it have two, one for the gauge and one for the ecu?

And is code 170 for the secondary air flow system?

Thanks

170 is for the Secondary Air flow, a common fault on E39 M5s, but shouldnt trigger EML..

105"Engine coolant temperature, Plausibility", has it overheated ??

Have you looked in the OBC to check the water temp ? loads of useful threads on this

Unplug the Temp Sensor (It is a double temp sensor, all in one) on top of the T Stat Housing, inspect and re connect.

Get your Secret Menu Option 7, sub menu 1 up on your instrument cluster and then go for a cruise at 50 mph in 6th and report back the lowest temps you see..(However this test is not so stringent in the the summer months).

Have you ever checked your codes previously ?

Hi, I have just pulled the plug on the temperature sensor and cleaned with contact cleaner.

Been for a drive and got her fully warmed up. At 50mph in top gear she is reading 85 degrees C, when I push her she goes up to around 90 degrees, then settles back down round 85.

This was the first time I have read the codes. I also cleared the codes. No engine light as yet.

Thanks
