Put a towel on the console to sit on and open the sun roof......pull up........mine popped right off. Pull the boot up so its off of the console(snaps into place on the left and right). I did a e60 short shifter yesterday.

How are you approaching the pull? Like many others here, I have had to open the roof, sit on the center armrest, and pull with a TON of force to get the knob off. I also found it easier for me to give it the overhand grip, having the knob up and forearm while grabbing the bottom of the shifter with my hand. This way I dont punch myself in the face when it pops.

So because of this darn heat by the time I got "in position" my hands were already getting a little sweaty which made it real hard to get a good grip! I did some thinking and tried using a medium pair of channel locks ( not the jaw end) set so the handle could be used as a handle to be able to pull. Well that worked great it came right off after that. I highly recommend if it's being stubborn!

Jeez... didn't think that thing was that hard to remove. I'm about to do the E60 shifter conversion, but sounds like I should hit the gym until the parts get delivered.

Just went through this process the other day - it was a battle. It was a hot day - even with the sun roof open and all doors open my hands were sweating which made pulling off the shift knob really difficult. I ended up having success using microfiber towels to get a good grip. Watch your head on the sunroof though when you do pull it off - I bumped mine pretty nicely

Just put on a pair of mechanics gloves, or any grippy glove and it will be fine.

Just be careful because some owners have given themselves black eyes. And I'm not joking at all...

OK, if my shifter knob manages to knock me out, I'm definitely packing up my tools for a while
